“Yes. Though that was pretty quick compared to Nevaeh,” Grayson answered.
Celeste put her hands into her pockets and glanced back at the other pack’s Alpha.
“That’s probably because I’d met Tayte before.”
“God, you’re beautiful,” I said without thinking, and she smiled brightly up at me.
“What’s Nevaeh talking about, Celeste? Is there something we need to know?” Tayte asked.
She nodded. “There’s lots of things. Like my background, the bears, everything. But I think…” She turned around to look at Nevaeh, “I think she meant one specific thing. It’s the main reason I’m here.”
We waited, the air around us completely still.
You would have heard the proverbial pin drop.
“And that is?” I prompted, dying of the suspense.
She lifted her gaze to meet with Tayte’s. “I’m pregnant.”
Chapter 4.
Celeste.
As soon as I said it, my secret… my truth, I heard the swift intake of three breaths.
I wanted to laugh at them.
Was it really so shocking?
That after a one-night-stand there’d be consequences to our actions?
My hands went reflexively to my flat stomach, which wouldn’t be flat much longer.
I was over eight weeks now, and Nevaeh had said that wolf shifter pregnancies were slightly different that normal human ones. I’d be bigger, show quicker.
My gaze was still connected with Tayte’s and because of that, I think, the other two men walked further away.
To give us room, perhaps? I wasn’t sure.
Tayte stepped closer. “Are you sure?”
It’s mine? hung in the air and I glared up at him. The guy was a foot and a half taller than me, so I had to crane my neck.
“Considering you’re the only man I’ve ever slept with and I’m eight weeks pregnant, vomiting and freaking out, then, yeah, I’m sure.”
Part of me marvelled at the way I was speaking to an Alpha.
He was so big, and strong. Usually that would be a man who terrified me. But even on the first night we met, he’d been so sweet. So loving.
I’d just known that he was different from all the others.
“That’s… That’s…”
He didn’t seem to be able to find the words, and I jumped in to fill in the sentence. “What? Horrible? Terrible?”
“A miracle,” he breathed and pulled me into his body and held me.
I closed my eyes and put my head on his chest and sighed.
