“How are you handling Luke’s stardom?” Lou asked as I helped her wash up the dishes. Luke and Jack were still on the roof catching up.
I shrugged. “To be honest, I haven’t really seen much of it. When he comes to Boston, we’re either at my place or his, and if we do go out, we meet there and never arrive together. Luke usually arranges for us to be seated somewhere we won’t gain a lot of attention.”
Lou nodded, and I could tell she wanted to say something but remained silent.
“It’s been a whirlwind the last four months, but I’ve enjoyed it.”
She smiled. “You’re in love with him.”
I paused in the middle of drying off a dish and met her gaze. Before I had a chance to even respond, the man in question appeared.
“Are you ready to go dancing?” Luke asked with a smirk on his face.
“Oh Lord. You two didn’t set that up, did you?” Lou asked.
Looking between the two of them, I asked, “Set what up? Dancing where?”
Lou slipped the plate out of my hand and motioned for me to go back up to the roof with Luke.
He winked as he took my hand in his and led us up the steps. I wasn’t going to lie to myself—I felt like a kid being led to her gifts under the Christmas tree.
Luke
“We’re dancing on the roof, huh?” Bree asked as we walked back out into the cooler night air.
“Are you too cold?” I asked.
She turned and looked at me with the sweetest smile on her face before she tried to look sad. “I was hoping for sex on the bike,” she sighed.
I laughed. “Trust me, I still plan on delivering that. You told me once how much you love to dance, and since we haven’t had a chance to go dancing since Christmas, I asked Jack to help me.”
Reaching for a remote on the table, I hit play and Gene Kelly started to filter through the speakers.
Bree giggled, shook her head, and walked into my arms. “How did you know this was one of my favorite songs?”
“I heard through the grapevine you have a thing for Gene Kelly.”
She gazed up at me. “I do. He makes me all hot and bothered.”
I raised my brows. “Does he now?”
Nodding, she laid her cheek on my chest as we slowly danced to “You Wonderful You.”
As we glided across the roof, I pulled out some of my Gene Kelly moves, and Bree laughed as I spun and twirled her before I drew her back to me.
“You’re a wonderful dancer, Luke,” she said.
I leaned my forehead on hers. “Only because I’m dancing with you, love.”
Her eyes filled with tears. Cupping her face in my hands, I leaned in, but before I kissed her, I whispered, “I love you, Brighton.”
A single tear slipped free and made a path down her cheek. “I love you too.” She smiled.
She reached up ever so slightly and bridged the gap between us, and I wrapped my arms around her and deepened the kiss. This wasn’t the place where I thought I’d tell her those three words, but it was the perfect moment.
When we finally broke the kiss, she drew in a shaky breath. With her eyes still closed, she said, “Did you only have one song planned?”
Laughing, I picked her up and spun her around while she laughed. I loved seeing her so happy and at ease. “I did. I want to get you back to my place.”
Bree nodded. “I like the sound of that.”
Lou and Bree exchanged numbers, we said our goodbyes, and soon we were back on the bike. Instead of turning onto the main road, I chose a side road that led to Jack and Lou’s house. They wouldn’t be home for another few hours and it was the perfect place to afford us some privacy.
“Where are we going now?” Bree asked with touch of excitement in her voice.
“I plan on taking advantage of that dress and the fact that you said the bike makes you hot and bothered.”
She held onto me tighter as I pulled down the drive and parked to the side of Jack and Lou’s place. I thanked my lucky stars they lived on four acres of land and no one would be around.
“How are we going to do this?” Bree asked while I parked and put out the kickstand.
“Wing it.”
Bree laughed. “Wing it?
I shrugged and placed my helmet gently on the ground. Bree did the same.
“I’ve never thought about having sex on my bike, so yeah. We’re gonna have to wing it.”
Her teeth dug into her lower lip, and she crawled around the bike to face me. Her hands went to work getting my dress pants unbuttoned. She smiled when she saw I had forgone boxers.
“If I had known this, I would have been copping some feels all night,” she said.
