If you only knew.
“It’s okay mom, thanks for watching over her, I’ll take over now, gotta see about getting her out of here.”
“She’s already been discharged but you told her not to leave until you got back so she wouldn’t budge.”
Good girl.
I smiled; I thought it would be a long time before that happened again.
“Mom, I think I’m going to take Carrie to the island for the holidays, she needs to get away from all this, I’m sure whatever case they build will take time right, she won’t be needed here, but before we go, I need you to do one thing for me.”
“What’s that son?”
I had to think of what to say, this was not an easy thing to ask but I had to.
“You may not like it.”
“Just tell me son, you’ll never know unless you ask.”
“Josie was part of this, I’m not sure how much, but she and Patti were scheming, Matt heard them on the phone, I need to.......”
“You want to get back at her for hurting your Carrie; shouldn’t you just leave it alone? It’s done now, they’ve been thwarted.....”
I looked her in the eye, did she not know me? She’s such a mother, she looks at me and sees her almost eighteen year old son, the baby she raised with love.
She doesn’t see the dominant control freak that would do anything to keep his girl safe, who would go to any lengths to fuck over anyone who hurt her in any way.
“I warned her, she didn’t listen, she made herself a thorn in my side for the last time, if you can’t do it I’ll understand, her family are friends.....”
“It’s not that Joshua, I just don’t want you caught up in all this negativity, you kids are too young for all this nonsense, I mean, I always knew Patricia was a spoilt little....you know what, but this, this is criminal, and now you’re asking me to do Lord knows what so you can have your revenge, where does it end?”
“It ends when they all pay.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that everyone that hurt her will pay, this was no high school prank mom, kids aren’t like they were back when you were one, they have access to all kinds of things, you can Google murder and come up with a million scenarios, and these same kids grow into adults with the same mentality, what, you think I’m going to turn twenty one and automatically become a different person? I might grow yes, but my core will still be the same.”
And that’s why I knew I had to stop Josie with her obsession or she’d never stop. She wasn’t going to just go away like I hoped.
Note to players, watch who you fuck around with cause there’re some crazy fucks in the world.
“She could’ve been raped and murdered, you’re lucky your son isn’t running around hacking these fucks to pieces.”
“Oh Joshua, Carrie doesn’t need you to be getting into trouble.”
“Carrie needs to be safe, they used my damn phone to lure her into this shit, now I don’t know how much a part of it Josie was but I’ll bet she knew and agreed, granted they might not have known Travis was a monster, but that’s no excuse, they want to play with peoples’ lives, then they should bear the consequences.”
She studied me for a long time as if trying to make up her mind; she’d better make the right choice, because this way was the easy way. If she refused Josie was going to be in a world of hurt because option number two was even harsher.
She’s lucky I hadn’t hunted her ass down and beaten the shit out of her already.
“Think about it, I have to go talk the Captain into letting me take Carrie home with me for the next little while.”
“I’m not sure he’ll let you.”
“Why not, he knows we’re together.”
“She’s his daughter; he might want to be there for her.”
“He’s going to be knee deep in this mess for a while, she needs to be taken care of twenty four seven for a while, and I can do that.”
“Okay son, you do what you think is best and I’ll be here to help you know that, I like your Carrie, poor little thing. By the way what is it you want me to do, you never said.”
“Just throw a party, not at the house though, one of those halls you use for special events, I’ll get you the guest list.”
“That’s all, a party?”
“Yeah, but it’ll have to be soon, before Xmas.”
“Joshua, that’s less than two weeks notice.....”
“I know mom, can you do it?”
“Sure I can but I don’t know if everyone will be able to attend, these things take time.”
“No one’s ever declined a Margaret Steele invite, they wouldn’t dare, it’s like social suicide or something.”
