“And that’s why I’m giving it to you.” I part my lips and take the bite. He’s really trying to show me he’s not all beating-chest or a jerk-off. It’s working. He brings his fingers back to his mouth, licking the icing off again.

“You’re really showing me it would be hard to work together. I don’t think we would ever get anything done.”

“I’m seeing the opposite.” I wiggle on his cock, making a groan come from him.

“Are you saying it’s not hard to work with that?” I tease him.

“It’s only that way when you’re around. Doesn’t matter if you’re in my lap or not.” I shake my head at him, but secretly I love that I turn him on so much.

“I’m serious. Don’t you think it could be a conflict of interest? Could it cause problems?” I worry my bottom lip between my teeth. Believe me, I want nothing more than to say yes and jump all over this. But I also don’t want him giving me this project because he thinks he has to or out of some sort of pity over me getting fired. Or did I quit? I suppose it doesn’t matter at this point really. He reaches up and pulls my lip out from between my teeth.

“Actually, I think we would work well together. How about we do a trial run, and if you don’t feel as though it’s working, you can look for something else? But don’t deprive yourself of the opportunity because you think I’m handing you the job.”

“Okay.” I give because I believe him. I watched his expressions as he flipped through the books. As soon as I agree, he’s kissing me. I turn in his lap, straddling him. I think I’m going to be agreeing to a lot more if this is what it gets me.

“Now that we’ve sealed the deal on the work front—” He breaks from the kiss, standing and lifting me up into his arms. My legs wrap around him as he carries me toward the bedroom. “Why don’t I help you get dressed and then we can head out to the January George property so you can get a proper look?”

“I don’t think getting dressed is what I need help with,” I say as I try to rub myself against him. Okay, maybe I’m the one that will be causing the problem. Blake presses me against the wall and starts to kiss me. I moan against his mouth, digging my fingers into his hair.

I jerk back when a pounding sounds at the door. Blake growls, jerking his mouth from mine. The irritated expression on his face is adorable. The doorbell sounds next before another round of knocks follow. This round is louder than the first time.

“Expecting anyone?”

“No.” I shake my head.

He reluctantly puts me back down on my feet. I fight a laugh as I watch him adjust his cock. He has his slacks on and his shirt, but it remains unbuttoned.

“Edison Police,” the person at the door calls before knocking again. My mouth falls open in shock. What the heck are the cops doing at my place? I try to move past Blake to answer the door, but he snags me around the waist, pulling me back.

“I’ve got it.” I roll my eyes but let him answer the door.

“What’s going on? Has something happened to my sister?”

“Oh God.” I groan when I hear my sister's voice as Blake starts to open the door. Blake glances back at me. “Button your shirt!” I shout, rushing over toward him.

I ignore both my sister and the cop at the door and start to button up Blake’s shirt for him. He stands there, smiling down at me, as I continue to cover him up. He doesn’t even care that there are two people standing right there watching us. All of his attention remains focused on me.

“There something we can help you with?” Blake asks once I get his shirt all buttoned up. He wraps his arm over my shoulder, tucking me into his side. Without my heels, he really towers over me. My sister's eyes are giant, bouncing between Blake and me. What the hell is she doing here? Of course she is all dolled up—but she always is.

“Angel said her sister’s been missing, so I’m doing a wellness check.”

“You check my woman, Billy, we'll have problems.” The officer actually chuckles and lifts his hand.

“I’m perfectly fine as you can see, Officer.” I don’t even acknowledge my sister. “Is there anything else you need?”

“No, ma’am. It seems to me you are perfectly fine.”

“We are more than fine, Billy.” Blake’s hold on me tightens.

“I’ll be on my way then. Again, I’m sorry to have bothered you.” He turns and begins walking away.

“You called the police?” I hiss at my sister, not missing the bag at her feet.
