“That doesn’t mean I need to be caught in your room naked!” I dive off of him. He gets to his feet, and we both start looking for our clothes.

The handle of the door starts to turn.

Not locked then.

Instead of under the bed, I make a beeline for the closet, closing the door far enough to hide, but leaving a little crack of light. My clothes may be scattered around, but honestly, those could be anyone’s panties.

Trying not to breathe too loud, I listen to Anderson exclaim, “What the hell, Roman? You could’ve given me a minute to answer the door.” I wonder if he got his boxers on in time at least?

“Tell me what’s going on between you and Sicily,” Roman insists.

Well, a good amount of orgasms would be the truthful answer, but Anderson isn’t stupid.

“We’re seeing each other. I was going to talk to you about it.”

As much as I want to focus on what they’re saying, something catches the corner of my eye. What is that on the edge of the closet shelf beside me? Just above my head, I swear I saw something move. Maybe it was one of those corner of your eye tricks.

No. It can’t be what it looks like. Another inch of movement brings it into the crack of light, and my skin crawls.

It’s a roach.

Not just a roach, but Satan’s roach, a palmetto bug. It’s a monster, damn near the size of my palm. And they fly.

This isn’t happening. I’m not naked in a closet with that demon bug hanging inches away from me.

“After a year with no sex you decide to fuck my sister!” Roman yells.

No, no. Don’t yell. You’ll startle it! Please, Roman, just get out.

Moving probably isn’t a good idea, but neither is standing here naked where that bug could fly at my vulnerable parts. A jacket hangs on my other side, and I slowly reach for it, keeping my eyes on the bug.

That’s it. Just stay right there. Stay right where you are.

Almost got it.

Yes!

The jacket isn’t big enough to cover me if I wear it, so I wrap it around my waist, covering what I can.

“It’s not like that! I care about her. We didn’t expect this to happen. We’ve been friends forever so I should’ve told you, and you have every right to be angry about that. But I’m not giving her up!” Anderson says, raising his voice.

Aww. He really likes me. That’s so sweet—Ahhhhhh!

Three things happen very quickly. One, the monster bug takes flight. Two, it lands on my bare shoulder. Three, I burst out the closet, beating the hell out of myself with one hand while trying not to drop the jacket and expose myself.

“It got me! Get it off! Get it off of me!”

Two sets of wide, stunned eyes watch me.

I couldn’t give a shit.

I’m too busy practicing karate and yoga moves I didn’t know I had, contorting myself to slap at areas of my body. Finally, I see it fly across the room and disappear into a fold of the curtain.

No one’s talking.

The jacket covers me from the waist down, and I throw my arm over my boobs. Roman finally reacts by averting his eyes.

And Anderson….

Anderson laughs.

He fucking laughs.

And I don’t mean a few chuckles. He stands there in his underwear between us with his head thrown back, and brays at the ceiling like a damn donkey. Okay, maybe he doesn’t sound like a donkey, but you get what I mean.

Tears leak out of his eyes. Every time he seems to get it under control, he looks at me and loses it again.

Maybe I should’ve put those penis dwelling fish in his toilet.

Even Roman starts to chuckle.

“It’s not funny,” I announce.

At my words, Roman looks at Anderson and cracks up too. Maybe it’s because Anderson’s making a weird huh huh sound as he tries to catch his breath between laughs. Anderson grabs a robe and hands it to me, still fighting for air.

Once I’m suitably covered up, Roman shakes his head. “I don’t fucking like this, but we’ll talk about it later.”

The words might’ve had a little more punch if they weren’t punctuated by giggles. Whatever. What’s a little humiliation as long as it smooths this over?

Roman leaves, and I debate crawling back into the closet.

It takes Anderson a few minutes of persuading—and him catching and disposing of the bug—to get me to spend the night.

Despite what happened, there’s a smile on my face when I snuggle into his arms to sleep. All in all, this was still the best sexual experience I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to do it again.

You know, minus the creepy crawly attack and the whole flashing my brother thing.

CHAPTER 16

LYDIA

When early morning sunlight floods the room, I open my eyes and peek up at Simon, only to realize he’s staring down at me.
