God had only signed off on two requests for a different partner assignments and a complaint filed by a suspect against one of their officers when the captain yelled from his office for them to go with two other detectives to perform a search and seizure across town.

Day threw his hands up in the air. “I think we are being punked. How the hell are we supposed to do all of this shit and be out in the field?”

“Fuck if I know,” God answered him, rubbing his eyes, throbbing from reading all those forms.

“Delegation, you fools.”

God and Day both looked up at the thin man standing next to their desks with his own stack of paperwork. He lifted it high and let it drop down in God’s in-box, making some of the other papers fall on the floor.

“What did you say? And pick those up, asswipe.” God pointed to the fallen papers.

The IT geek squatted and picked up the couple sheets, sliding them back on the desk. Detective Halls wasn’t a field officer; he was a computer crimes detective and an excellent hacker. The guy had like five different degrees in computer technology and a Masters in Forensic Science. He could take apart a computer blindfolded and put back together, or he could lift a usable fingerprint off a brick wall. He was a cocky sonofabitch who acted like he knew it all… which he actually did.

“I said delegation. You guys are lieutenants. That means you have sergeants, beat cops, and a whole office full of administrative officers at your disposal.” Halls reached out and plucked the paper from Day’s hand and flipped it over scanning its contents quickly before flicking it back at him. He sucked his teeth and shook his head at Day as if he was pathetic. “What type of three-star lieutenant spends hours approving vacation requests? The goddamn receptionist can input those, put a damn sticky note with a yes or no on it, and hand it off. Get it together, guys.”

Day and God sat there with their mouths open as the tactless man walked through the station with his nose held high and closed himself back in his department, that consisted of ten laboratory stations, and what looked to be fifty or so computers.

“Damn that guy is a prick,” Day muttered and started putting the papers in different stacks.

“What are you doing?” God asked.

“Delegating and then I’m getting my ass back on the streets where I belong.” Day winked.

God quickly followed suit and after thirty minutes of sorting their paperwork they efficiently moved around the station issuing orders, behaving like real lieutenants.

By the end of the day God and Day were too exhausted to go out with Ronowski and Johnson for beers and instead picked up a pizza and went home to kick back and relax. They barely had time to digest their food before they were both in bed snoring loudly.

The Best Gift of Them All

A full month had passed and God and Day were just getting used to their new duties. Their true passion was being out on the streets, so the men had no problems with their newfound love for the art of delegation. They were good bosses, though, and eventually the coworkers who disagreed with their promotion at first were slowly coming around.

It was Friday night. Tomorrow all of the department, their family, and close friends would be at their house to help them celebrate their partnership anniversary. Day didn’t think a time would come where his heart would be so filled, doubting he could handle another wonderful thing happening.

He was in bed watching the Food Network waiting on God to come out of the bathroom. He’d been in there for over an hour. The water to the shower had stopped twenty minutes ago.

“Hey! You didn’t fall in did you?” Day called out.

No answer.

“Babe.” Day pushed mute on the television. There was no sound at all. “Cash.”

No answer.

Day pushed the covers back, got up and walked quickly over to the door. His nipples hardened in the coolness of the room, goose bumps popped up on his forearms. He tapped a couple times and before he tapped a third time God opened the door. Day exhaled a nervous breath. “Geez. Didn’t you hear me call—”

God’s hot mouth was on Day before he could finish his sentence. He was pushed back against the wall as God closed in on him, thrusting his strong pelvis into his. He grabbed both hands, interlocking their fingers and pulled them high above their heads. He pressed Day’s hands against the cool surface, sliding his hands down his arms, landing on the front of his naked chest. God pulled his mouth away and kissed along Day’s jaw to the base of his throat. He took a long inhale against Day’s neck.
