She knew she locked her car doors, but she looked in the backseat and got a funny feeling as she hit send on her cell.

It was two thirty in the morning. The phone rang several times as she stared at the flowers. They looked like they came from the bushes near the swing set where she played with Ben. The bushes were wild and the flowers beautiful. She had complimented them as she played with Ben.

She swallowed hard.

“Hello,” a groggy voice answered.

“It’s me. I just finished working now.”

“Oh, great. I’ll just get my sh

oes on and head over,” Trevor stated.

“Don’t be silly. By the time you get here, I could be home and showered.”

“Wait, is everything okay? Any word on Sylvia?”

“None. The sheriff didn’t stop by either so I don’t know what’s going on.” Lori pulled out of the parking lot.

She stared at the flowers as she drove down the road.

“Oh, thanks for the flowers. When did you drop these off and how the heck did you get into my car? The doors were locked. Oh, wait, was it Charlie?”

“Flowers? We didn’t leave you any flowers. What kind are they?” he asked, and she started to tell him when she noticed the set of lights behind her, another car was coming closer and kind of fast.

“I didn’t open the card, Trevor. I thought they were from you.”

“Don’t go home, come straight here, Lori. Where are you now?” he asked and as she answered the car behind her hit her car bumper in the back.

She screamed as she held the wheel tight and tried to maintain control.

“Lori, Lori!” She could hear Trevor yelling her name. She couldn’t reach for the phone.

It had fallen onto the floor. “Trevor, someone just hit me with their car. I can’t reach the phone.”

“Fuck, Lori, are they still following you?”

“Oh God, they’re coming closer. What do I do?” she asked as the car hit her back bumper again. She screamed as she lost control of the car and ran into the ditch on the side of the road. The tire blew out, she hit her forehead on the steering wheel and felt dazed.

“Lock the doors. Lori, are you okay?”

She looked up and saw the car heading straight for her. Her seat belt was stuck as she tried to undo it. The sound of the engine revving told her that the driver wasn’t going to stop. It was a truck of some sort. She got the belt off and climbed to the passenger seat as he struck the corner of the car.

Lori went flying into the passenger door, and glass hit her shoulder. She was screaming.

Her head throbbed terribly as if she had hit her head or something and she turned to look for the vehicle but it was gone. The road was dark except for her headlights that shone straight ahead. She could hear yelling and she remembered the phone. Her hands were shaking. She couldn’t even pick it up. She dropped the cell phone once then pulled it to her ear.

“Trevor,” she said in a very shaky voice.

“Lori. We’re on our way. We called the highway patrol. Are you okay?”

She was shaking profusely and she felt the burning pain and throbbing in her arm and shoulder. Her head hurt.

“Lori?” Trevor yelled.

She dropped the phone and stared out the window, she could hear the rumble of an engine and she lowered against the side door. With eyes barely open, she played unconscious as the truck slowly passed by. The driver was looking to see if she were injured. She just knew it as her heart felt like it would leap from her chest. Tears filled her eyes and she begged herself not to show consciousness and not let the tears roll down. He wanted to kill her, whoever it was. Then suddenly he turned around and took off, speeding down the roadway.
