Sean scowled and crossed his arms, hearing Max’s voice in his head. “What, is your email broken? That way’s always worked just fine.”
No, it wasn’t broken. But it did feel degrading. What they had now was above that. Shit, what they had was above texts. And whether Max agreed or not, it really shouldn’t matter. Max gave Sean his number for the purpose of communication. The least he could do was acknowledge his fucking messages.
Sean’s ire flared hotter, but hit a patch of turbulence when, for the umpteenth time, he wondered why Max didn’t want to talk to him. Was he with someone else? Someone he liked better than Sean? Sean’s stomach turned anxiously. He shoved the thought away. Maybe Max was just mad or something. But for what exactly? Sean was pretty sure he hadn’t done anything wrong. He’d behaved at their last session, stayed chilled at the club—well, aside from that little invitation debacle. But even then, he thought that he’d redeemed himself well with that smokin’ little spontaneous blowjob.
The front door flew open. “Dinner is served!”
Sean looked up and smiled. “Pizza. I love you.”
“The name’s Jonah, not pizza… And I love you, too.” Jonah made a goofy kissy face, then hung up his keys.
Sean chuckled. “How’d you get that so fast? I only messaged you a minute ago.”
“I’m just good like that.” Joe grinned and ambled over, sitting dinner on the coffee table with two Cokes.
Sean shot him a droll look.
Jonah shrugged and plopped down next to him. “Nah. Had this baby sitting shotgun in my ride way before your hungry ass even texted.”
Sean’s stomach rumbled louder. Jonah laughed and opened the box. “Extra pepperoni. Because your roommate’s the man.”
“Shit.” Sean grabbed a slice. “My roommate’s the fucking king.”
“Ha. Kick ass. Guess that makes you my jester.”
Sean shook his head, chewing. “Captain… Royal guard.”
“Pfft.” Jonah grabbed up a slice of his own. “Try royal pain in my ass, yo. For real.”
Sean laughed. Jonah snickered and bumped Sean with his shoulder. Then both proceeded to inhale their dinner.
A few minutes later, Sean sighed and sat back, taking a swig of his Coke as he eyed his best friend. They’d been like ships passing in the night this entire weekend and had barely had a chance to even talk. Which meant Sean still hadn’t gotten the lowdown about Friday night, when Jonah left the club to go meet up with Ledger. Things must’ve gone well, though, by Jonah’s overall mood—and that curious little twinkle in his eye.
Sean smiled and capped his soda. “So, spill. How’d things go the other night with you and Ledger?”
Jonah’s chewing slowed. His expression turned boyish. “Would I sound like a crazy person if I said I have no idea?”
Sean coughed a small laugh. “Reserving judgment. Expound.”
Jonah groaned a little. “I dunno, dude. I mean, I think things went good.” He dropped his half-eaten slice back into the box, then turned on the cushions to face Sean fully. “I met him where he asked me to. He smiled when he saw me. Introduced me to some people. Bought me a beer even, which was cool.”
Sean’s smile curved higher as he listened to him talk. Jonah’s voice had dipped low, not a lot, but Sean noticed. Just the thought of Ledger clearly got him going. Sean gestured to continue. “And? What happened next?”
Jonah shrugged. Scratched his neck. “Um, after a while, we relocated.”
Sean lifted a brow. “Relocated?”
“Yeah. To Ledger’s car. He said he couldn’t leave, had to load up all his equipment, but wanted to talk without all the interruptions for a while.”
“Ah.” Sean nodded. Ledger did get bombarded constantly. Chicks wanting his siggy across their tight shirts. Guys wanting their siggy across his dick. But Sean wasn’t stupid. Knew all too well that Ledger wanted Joe in his ride for other reasons. Sean watched his friend’s face. “Well? How’d that go?”
“Good… I think? Shit, I don’t fucking know.” Jonah pushed up his glasses—because, curiously, he was back to wearing them—and shook his head. “This is where I get confused.”
Sean chuckled. “What happened?”
Jonah sighed. “You mean, what didn’t.”
Sean’s eyebrows shot high. “Nothing happened… at all?” That made no sense. They were talking about Ledger. Granted, he wasn’t a total slut, had standards he fucked by, but still. He thought Joe was hot, and guys he thought were hot were guys who most definitely made the cut.
Jonah shrugged. “I mean, we talked. Listened to music. He had a smoke…”
Sean sensed there was more. He stared at Jonah. “And then?”
“And then…” Joe smiled. “He pulled me on his lap… had me straddle his thighs… And then he kissed me… Ah, God…” His expression turned euphoric. “…All slow and sexy… With that fucking tongue piercing… I got hard just like that… Seriously. Just like that… Then his hands were on my ass… and I was…” He winced, cheeks flushing. “…kinda sorta grinding like a floozy.”
