I told them I’d be back and headed to the ER. It turned out, they’d paged me because a patient had come in who’d lost their memory. I was on my way to bay three to examine him when every thought in my head scattered. The most perfect woman I’d ever seen was being wheeled in on a stretcher.

She had light-brown hair tied up in a knot-thing on her head, but soft-looking strands floated around her heart-shaped face. Her body was small and dainty—from my observation, over a foot shorter than my six-foot-two frame—making me want to curl myself around her and shield her from the world. She had a button nose and a wide mouth with round lips that reminded me of Julia Roberts.

My girl’s eyes suddenly met mine, and the hazel color was so fluid it seemed like they were constantly changing back and forth from blue to green. Our gazes were locked, and heat exploded between us. Even from across the room, the electricity crackled and sent bolts of lust straight to my cock. If I hadn’t been so utterly obsessed with the woman, I would have taken a moment to be shocked that my dick had even twitched. It hadn’t reacted to anyone in years. But my cock roared to life the second I saw her.

As she was wheeled into a bay, my heart stopped as I remembered she was a patient. The thought of her being injured or in any pain at all drove me batshit crazy. I almost ran over and demanded to know what was wrong and everything else about her.

The only thing I knew about her right at that moment was that she was mine.

But before I could take a step in her direction, a nurse shoved a tablet in my hands and began telling me about the patient I’d been called to examine. Since my woman had only just arrived, it would be a while before she was discharged, so I focused on my patient.

I gave him—Ron—a thorough exam, then I wrote orders for a battery of tests and told them to keep me in the loop, especially if he began exhibiting any concerning symptoms. I went over everything with Ron and answered all of his questions, being completely transparent about his treatment. I didn’t sugarcoat shit with my patients. That would only make it harder if things got worse. Instead, I made sure they understood everything and that the hospital staff and I would bust our asses to do what we could to help them. I was in their corner and did everything I could to make sure they knew it.

After Ron was wheeled away, I finished writing some notes on my tablet, then finally gave myself permission to focus on the beauty. She was currently looking around the room as if searching for someone. I smirked as I walked over, stopping at her side before she noticed my presence.

Her sweet innocence was adorable and a huge fucking turn-on. My mouth watered as I took in her curves, and I knew I’d never be satisfied until I’d explored every single inch of her. I doubted even that would satiate my intense hunger for her. I’d only glanced at her chart and asked her a single question when that little shit Vincent came over and tried to lay claim to her. My lust was chased away by rage and the desire to string him up by his worthless balls. I was going to have a talk with his supervisor about his inappropriate attention to patients.

After making sure he knew he wasn’t welcome anywhere near Willa—even her name was sexy—I reassured my girl that no one would ever hurt her again. I hesitated to ask her more questions because she’d closed her eyes in pain. My phone buzzed, and I pulled it from the front pocket of my lab coat to see a text from Alyssa’s mom that the baby was here. I hated to leave my girl, but I wanted to meet my little “niece” and congratulate my friends.

Since Willa hadn’t been fully examined yet, I knew that if I was quick, she wouldn’t be able to leave before I had a chance to get back to her. I gave in to my need to touch her in some way and brushed a soft kiss over the top of her head before murmuring that I’d be back shortly.

As soon as I congratulated my friends and busted Bear’s chops for a minute, he immediately figured out that my distracted mind was on a woman. He encouraged me to leave, so I didn’t feel guilty about dropping in and running out. Although, I hadn’t missed the gleam of retribution in his eyes. He wasn’t going to let me get away with all the teasing and shit I’d given him when he’d fallen for Alyssa. I didn’t care, though. Willa was worth anything life threw at me.
