“We … well …we were .. just, erm-”
Great. The man I was hot for a second ago has turned into a Hugh Grant character.
Tilly was still grinning, and I lifted her onto my lap. “What’s wrong with Daddy?” she asked.
“Well, sweetheart,” I began, “Daddy and I have a lot of things to talk about, and you weren’t supposed to see … that.”
“You weren’t talking,” she said, still giggling, and I cuddled her into me, completely consumed by how much love I had for her. She looked up at me, her face turning serious, even though her eyes were still sparkling – and not just from her glittery make-up. “You know when I was a fairy?” she asked, and I nodded. “I made a very special wish when I blew out my candles.”
“What did you wish for?” Dominic asked.
Tilly’s face became the absolute definition of mischievous. “It just came true.”
Again, I glanced at him and this time, he smiled.
Maybe our relationship hadn’t been properly defined yet, we still had a lot to discuss. But the little angel chuckling in my lap had made her position very clear. In her mind, she’d even made it happen.
