“Sorry, I just assumed your fiancé wouldn’t be happy about it.” He glares down at me pointedly and I gasp, reality smacking me in the face. He knows about Noah and me? But how?

“I…” I shake my head, trying to find the words, but before I can, he speaks again.

“Just tell me this. Did you ever really love me? Because I can’t imagine you dying and within days finding someone else to replace you that easily. I mean, fuck, Cam, you moved on like I meant nothing to you.”

His question… his accusation… hits me like a bitch slap to my face, and I clamber off him, scrambling to my feet, as the last few months come back to me.

“Where the hell have you been? Everyone thought you died in an explosion months ago.”

“I’ve been here,” he says coldly. “Now, answer me.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I never moved on. I meant what I said when I told you, you’re my forever.” I try like hell not to cry, but my emotions get the best of me and sobs rack my body, as I remember the day that changed everything. How can Isaac believe I could ever move on from him, and so easily at that?

“I saw the marriage license!” he barks, making me jump back. “I know you and Noah are planning to get married. I loved you and you moved on like what we had meant shit to you.”

He grips the side of the coffee table and flips it over. It crashes against the marble, the candles that were resting on top smashing into several pieces.

Is he fucking serious right now? “That’s not what happened.” As I’m about to explain the truth of the situation, a sharp pain slices through my side and I double over, my hands going to my belly.

Isaac is at my side in an instant. “What’s wrong?”

“My stomach… I think it’s the baby.” I sit on the love seat and take a few calming breaths, until the pain dissipates slightly.

“You’re pregnant?” Isaac blanches, and it feels as though my heart is being ripped out of my chest all over again. I dreamed of the day I would wake up and his death would be nothing more than a bad dream, but in my head, our reunion always went differently.

“I’m almost sixteen weeks.”

He’s quiet for several seconds and then he asks a question that, if I weren’t already sitting, would knock me on my ass. “Is the baby mine?”

“Of course it’s yours!” I hiss. “I can’t believe you would even ask me that.” I drop my face into my hands, wondering how everything got to be so messed up.

“You can’t blame me after learning about you and Noah.”

“Speaking of which, why are you giving me the third degree and not him? Where is he anyway?”

“I took you while he was gone because I wasn’t about to let you marry him. I’m pissed as fuck at him as well, but I can’t blame him for falling for you. I sure as hell couldn’t stop myself. But you? You supposedly loved me, and just like that…” He snaps his fingers. “You moved on with my best friend, with the man who is like a brother to me.”

“Let’s get one thing straight. Your best friend is a psychopath, and I wouldn’t touch him if he were the last man on Earth.”

Isaac shakes his head in confusion. “Cam, you were about to marry him… I saw the license—”

“Only because he locked me in his guestroom and wouldn’t let me out!”

“He what?” he barks, standing. “What did you just say?”

“I was locked in his guestroom. When you came and got me from his house, how did you open the door?”

“There was a key in…” His eyes go wide. “Fuck.” He tugs on the ends of his hair. “I wasn’t even thinking. I saw him leave, and I was so hell-bent on getting to you so I could confront you, I didn’t even think about it.” He sits back down, and his thigh rubs against my own. “You’re going to need to start from the beginning. Tell me everything.”

“I don’t know where to start. Where’s the beginning? When you died?” I back away from him slightly, breaking the connection. “Why are you only just now coming to me? Why have I been mourning you for months, thinking you were dead, when you weren’t? The license was only filed a few days ago. I think you need to start from the beginning.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

ISAAC

The Day of the Explosion

As I ride down to the parking garage, I can’t get my mind off of Camilla and those fucking cakes that I should be eating off of her, instead of having to go check out the fire alarm going off because more than likely James is pissed and wants to play more games. At some point, I’m going to have to put a stop to this shit. Camilla asked me not to retaliate, but it’s too late to sit this game out. My only option at this point is to play harder and beat James.
