Neither of us speak for a long minute as Ethan’s warm breaths slowly begin to even out against my neck.

The sex was amazing. Ten fucking stars on a five-star scale. Something I want to do over and over and over again.

But it was just sex, right?

Awkwardness begins to creep in the longer he stays on top of me, and I know it’s my own hang-ups making it hard for me to breathe. He’s bent in a way that the majority of his weight is on his arms, not my body. The anxiety I felt before he arrived starts to trickle back.

“You going to survive?” I ask, patting his back, hoping he sees it as an indication that I need a little room.

He shakes his head, and a chuckle escapes my throat.

“I have a really early day tomorrow.” He stiffens before slowly pulling back. Like the coward I am, I avoid his eyes, focusing on his chest instead. “I was on my way to bed when you knocked.”

“Yeah, sure. Okay,” he says, and suddenly I feel guilty for some reason.

“I can’t,” I whisper when his fingers brush over my clit.

“Just going to make sure the rubber doesn’t come off.”

With fingers holding the base of the condom, he pulls free. If that is the man soft, I have no idea how he finds pants that fit.

I ignore the emptiness I feel both physically and emotionally when he stands from the sofa and ties off the condom before walking to the hall bathroom and disposing of it.

When he makes it back to the living room, I’m already pulling on my clothes.

“Are you okay?” he asks as he scoops up his boxers from the floor.

I busy myself, straightening my t-shirt instead of looking directly at him.

“I’m good. That was amazing.”

I hazard a look up at him, and although he’s smiling, it doesn’t seem as genuine as the smiles he’s thrown my way in the past.

“You’re sure?”

“I just need a little space.” The words are totally cliché, but they’re mostly the truth.

Legend has a lot of experience. Just being linked to Cerberus makes that known.

Space is a substitute for answers to the millions of questions I have, but I don’t imagine this man wants to be involved in that.

I stand as he pulls on his jeans, pressing my lips to his for a brief kiss.

“Thank you,” I tell him.

Chapter 15

Legend

Thank you?

Is she for real?

She’s practically kicking me out of her house. I have no doubt she enjoyed the sex. It was phenomenal. The best I’ve ever had, I’d wager, and the way her spectacular pussy clamped down on my dick when she came and the way she pulsed against my mouth, I know for a fact she enjoyed it as well.

But thank you…

I don’t know that I’ve ever had a woman so quick to get rid of me after two orgasms.

I don’t want to leave. I want to strip those damn clothes off her and take her again. I want my fingers clamped on her chin, staring into her pretty eyes while I pound inside of her.

“I understand early mornings,” I say, instead of a hundred other things that come to mind.

I feel her following me to the door.

“Where’s your phone?” I ask, pulling mine out of my pocket. “We need to exchange numbers.”

I don’t hand out my number very often, but I’ve also never seen someone hesitate so quickly when I’ve offered it.

“I want you to call me if you have any more issues. What’s your number?”

She gives me the number, and I shoot a text to her phone. We both hear it chime in the other room, and I guess with how things are turning, I should be grateful she didn’t give me the wrong number.

I step up to her, curling my finger under her chin when she refuses to make eye contact with me. Is this what it feels like to women when I leave shortly after being inside of them? I mean, both parties have an understanding, but right now, I’m missing the clinginess of the women that think they have the ability to earn a permanent spot at the clubhouse. I don’t mean I want other women; I just wish Faith was displaying a little of the neediness I’m used to.

“I had a great time,” I say before brushing my lips over hers.

“Me too,” she says as I back away.

Maybe the woman does need space, but I hope she doesn’t need much or for an extended period of time. She’s unleashed something inside of me tonight, and there’s no chance I’ll be able to go long before seeing her again.

“Call me anytime,” I tell her once I step outside before she closes the door.

“Goodnight,” she responds without agreeing.

Weighed down with confusion, I climb back into the SUV and drive home. It’s still early according to clubhouse standards. Since I know I won’t have any luck of sleeping anytime soon, I follow the light to the garage, knowing I’m going to find a couple of the guys inside.
