As the show ends, there’s a huge round of applause and wolf whistles bouncing off the glass walls of our living room where members of the cast and crew are gathered to watch the season four première of Misfits. Although they have all screened it many times at the studio, there’s nothing like watching the first new episode on TV and knowing you are seeing it at the same moment as all the show’s fans.
As the final credits roll, seeing Danny’s name on the screen and observing the reactions of staff that adore him truly makes me feel like a teenager in love. High school’s bad boy grew up to be a really good man. My man.
My phone buzzes on the coffee table and I pick it up to find a text from Des.
Des: OMG! We just watched the season premiere of Misfits. I love the new Des character! The new girl at the school and you can already tell she is going to be a shit-stirrer. Tell Danny his debt to me is now fully paid off (he’ll know what that means).
Rose: LOL. I’ll let him know you said that! What a great season opener. Lots of surprises!
Des: And Lily (his version of you as the little red-haired girl, btw) thinks she’s pregnant. Are you two announcing something?
Rose: No. But we’re trying. Hasn’t happened yet, so I guess Danny has pregnancy on the brain and some wishful thinking.
Sitting down next to me, Danny is looking at me with a face that says, so what did you think?
“That was amazing. I loved it.” Showing him my phone, I tell him, “Check this out. Des loves the new girl character.”
“Shit-stirrer.” He laughs. “No. No. No. Tell her the little red-haired girl has been done. Can’t step on Charles Schulz, the man was and will always be, the master.”
He continues to read, breaking into a big smile as he reads about trying to get pregnant.
“Tell her we’re now even.” He hands the phone back to me.
“Even? You must’ve been seriously indebted to her. Having a character on a hit show named after you is no little thing.”
What is going on between the two of them, I wonder?
“Deeply indebted.” He raises his eyebrows as he emphasizes the word deeply.
“Deeply, you say?”
“Deeply,” his tone is seductive.
I can feel the heat in my cheeks rise at the thought of this talent, handsome man, my one-time fantasy, turned forever reality, buried deep inside me.
He laughs at my blush. “There’s my Rosie Cheeks.” Leaning forward, he plants a rough kiss on my lips, then looks around the room at our guests. “Show’s over. It’s time to get rid of these people. I’m ready to see another set of rosy cheeks.”
