I open the door and stop in my tracks, the man I can’t seem to quit thinking about is right here. He has Axe with him and a spray of wildflowers, my world rights itself and I fly into his arms, wrapping my legs around his waist.

Our lips meet each other’s and he’s taking everything I have to give and more. My whole being feels like it belongs with Cade. When we’re in the moment, just the two of us.

We finally break apart. I’m still wrapped around his body. I don’t want to let go of him. We may have only known each other a short amount of time, but I know Cade is my everything.

“I missed you, Aubs. Can’t stand not having you in my bed every night,” he rasps, as I finally lower my legs and slide down his body. I feel the hard ridge of his dick and I whimper in need, “I missed you, too. Sleeping was nearly impossible,” I reply back.

“Where are your bags?” he asks.

“In the bedroom.” I’m about to tell him I’ll grab them, but he’s already striding to where they are.

I bend down to pet Axe and coo at him, “I missed you too, boy.”

“This is it?” he questions as he’s holding my weekender bag.

“Yep, let me grab my purse and lock up,” I reply back.

“We’ll be back to get more of your things, soon,” he states.

“What does that mean?”

“I want you with me always. It’s been two days Aubrey. I hate waking up without you tangled in the sheets with me. I get home late at night and I instantly want to turn right back around and be with you.” His hands are on my shoulders as he looks into my eyes.

“I want that, too,” I reply, breathlessly.

“Good, it’s settled. We’ll come back Sunday and move you into my place,” he says, grabbing my keys and walking Axe and I out of the place I’ve called home the past few months. I leave with a smile, knowing that this is just the beginning.

Chapter 23

Cade

I won’t lie, not to myself and sure as hell not to my father. I told him I was going to do my damnedest to convince Aubrey to move in with me this weekend. He shook his head and said, “You sound like me when I was your age. I took one look at your mother and knew she was it. We were married two weeks later, lived a lot of years, until she was taken from me.”

I saw the sadness in his eyes. I know life is short and I didn’t want an hour to pass me by and not have Aubs with me.

I was worried that she would say it was too soon, that we should wait awhile longer, but when she gave me her smile and said yes, I was ready to walk her down the aisle and make her mine, so everyone in town would know it, too.

With that thought in mind, I know what I’ll be doing as soon as I get a spare moment. I’ll be heading to the jewelry shop, but first I need to get Aubrey’s phone and make a call to her father. I know she’s a daddy’s girl, and she loves her mom just as much. If I were in his shoes, I’d at least want the man to have the balls and courtesy of giving me a heads up.

We get home in a matter of fifteen minutes. Axe is in the backseat barking every now and then, ready to get out and sniff the ground. The past couple of days, even he’s been sad and grumpy without Aubrey here.

“Want to go out on the four-wheeler?” I ask her after I stow her bag in the master bedroom.

“I’d love to, I need to change first though.” She looks down at her work uniform that consists of scrubs, a long-sleeve shirt under her top, and sneakers.

“Take your time,” I tell her and then I load up some snacks and a couple of drinks for us.

I didn’t think to take something out for dinner, my mind was set on picking her up, and nothing else. Hopefully this will hold us over until we get back, then we can throw some frozen pizzas in the oven.

Heading outside, I go to the barn and start up the four-wheeler and drive it closer to the house. I leave it running so I can grab the snacks. But Aubrey stops me in my tracks. She’s in skintight jeans, boots that go up over her ankles, a white tee shirt underneath that is molded to her body, with a flannel on over it, and a beanie. She’s fucking beautiful and all mine. What really stops me though, and nearly steals my breath away, is her smile. Her face is lit up with her smile, her whole face has a look of pure happiness. It radiates off her. “Am I dressed warmly enough?” she asks.
