“Oh.”
He let out a sigh. “And she used to play for a rock band.”
“Oh,” she said again, understanding dawning.
“I know that doesn’t excuse how I treated you. Rejection happens all the time in the music business. I guess you know that.”
She nodded. Oh, how she knew that.
He smiled. Her heart skipped. He was so handsome.
“Can you forgive me? I’m really sorry, Jane.”
Forgive him? After he’d just given her one of the most precious afternoons of her life? Not to mention the hot threesome they’d just shared. She knew without a doubt she could forgive him almost anything. “Yes, Chandler. I can forgive you.”
Was that relief on his face? “Thank God,” he said. “There’s one more thing…”
“What?”
“I don’t want this to be over.” His cheeks reddened. “Us, I mean. I want to see you. See where it can lead. I think we could have something amazing together. I…”
Her skin prickled. “What?”
“I think I’m falling in love with you, Janie.” He fiddled with a stray lock of blond hair on his brow, looked around the small room, and then locked his gaze with hers. “Fuck. I’m not falling. I’m in love with you. Completely. It happened so quickly. I don’t understand it myself. I just know I love you.”
She reached for his hand, so warm beneath her touch. “I can’t believe you just said those words. I never imagined I’d hear them from you.”
His eyes sank just a little. “Are you feeling anything close to the same?” His voice cracked.
Warmth surged to the tips of her toes. “I’m feeling a lot of the same. I think you’re phenomenal.”
“And?” His eyebrows arched. Was that fear she saw on his face?
“I love you too, Chandler.”
He exhaled. “Really? After I was so horrible to you?”
“You weren’t horrible to me when we were making love.” She touched his cheek. His blond stubble scraped her palm. “And we were making love. It wasn’t just a fuck like you said.”
“No it wasn’t. I knew it then. I was being a jerk.” He pressed a moist kiss to her fingers. “I love you, Jane Rock.”
“I love you, Chandler Hamilton.” His warm lips curved against her fingers. “And one more thing…”
“Okay.”
“No more Ryan. I’m done sharing you.”
Happiness hit her in the gut like a lightning strike. “I think Ryan’s great, but I’m okay with that.”
His grin lit up his face. “And there’s one more thing…”
She shook her head, rolled her eyes. “How many more ‘one more things’ are there, Chandler?”
“Last one, I promise.”
“What is it this time?” He smiled, leaned forward, and brushed his lips lightly over hers. “Let’s go wow that agent.”
