“You’re beautiful.”
A jolt of happiness surged through her. “He told you that?”
“Yeah. This afternoon when we talked. He’s been through some major shit.”
“Right, his girlfriend. We’ve all been there, Ryan. Getting dumped sucks, but it’s no reason to turn rabid.”
Ryan visibly tensed. His lips pursed.
“You okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. There’s a story there, but it’s not my story to tell, Jane. I’m sorry.” Ryan edged toward the door. “He’ll be here. I promise you.”
She turned toward her mirror to check her makeup.
“What are you doing here, Ry? Moving in on my territory?”
The image in the mirror startled Jane. Chandler’s familiar body moved behind Ryan’s. He wore a crisp forest T-shirt and black jeans. Trying to look the part? She wasn’t sure, but he looked scrumptious. Absolutely fucking edible. Thank God. He was here. He’d play well, she was sure of it.
“Just convincing Jane that you wouldn’t let her down,” Ryan said. “And see? I was right.”
Jane turned to face both men. Such a contrast. One blond and refined, one dark and rugged. Both gorgeous in their own way. Had they ever shared a woman?
She shook her head to clear it. Where had that thought come from? And what had Chandler meant when he’d said “my territory”? Did he have feelings for her? She intended to find out.
“Your territory? I beg your pardon?”
“For tonight, I mean.” Chandler cleared his throat, and his cheeks reddened. “Your band is my territory.”
Jane smiled. Right. And she had some swamp land in Florida to sell. He liked her. He’d made that clear this afternoon. But something more was brewing in her own mind, her own heart, despite his contradictory words and actions where she was concerned. Was something more happening with him? Could they get past the fact that he hated her music? There was one way to find out for sure.
She stepped toward Ryan, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed his lips. She didn’t expect what happened next.
Chandler closed the door and moved behind Jane, brushed his lips against her nec
k. “You ever had two men, baby?” he whispered huskily in her ear, his breath a soft caress against her neck.
She broke the kiss, and Ryan’s lips traveled over her cheek to her ear. He licked her lobe. Tugged on it. Her muscles tightened, and electricity sizzled beneath her skin. She’d just been wondering if he and Ryan had shared women. How could they be so in sync?
Energy whirled around her. Her body was hypersensitive, hyper-aware. Every nerve on alert. She was burning alive from the inside out. Burning with passion.
“Have you, baby?” Chandler asked again, nuzzling her other ear. “Two men?”
“N-No,” she stammered, her voice not quite her own. “N-Never.”
“Have you thought about me?”
The vibrations of his deep voice scorched her soul.
“Have you thought about this afternoon?”
Truly, she’d thought of little else. And had berated herself repeatedly for thinking it. But now wasn’t the time or place. “You have to warm up. The set… Lisa Taylor…”
“We have an hour and a half before we go on, princess.” He trailed tiny kisses over her bare shoulder. “I’m warmed up, trust me. Getting hotter all the time. And I’d like to show you how two men can pleasure a woman.”
“But you…you don’t even like me. You don’t…”
“I like you just fine. And so does Ry.”
