“What?”
I startled. For a moment, I’d forgotten who was beside me. My eyes wanted to widen, but I controlled my expression before I turned to look at him.
“I’m sorry?” I asked. “Did you need something?”
He frowned at me, confused. If he insisted, I’d just pretend I said nothing, or make something up. It might have been better just to be upfront with anything, but now that we’d come this far, I didn’t want to interrupt our night.
A small corner of my mind felt guilty, but the majority was itching to get into a private room with a bed, with Jake, and get naked.
The lady came back quick
ly, and I looked away from him. I was relieved she was back for a different reason this time.
Jake didn’t say a thing as he paid for the condoms. They were packaged for us, and we left. We went back to the street, and Jake hailed a cab for us. He turned to look at me as one slowed down against the curb, and found me fidgeting.
“Is something wrong?” he asked.
I gave him an awkward smile. “I’m…dripping,” I said quietly.
He smirked. “Ah.” He ducked his head to put his lips at my ear. “Don’t worry. The second we get into my hotel room, you can take everything off. You can have a shower, if you’d like, as long as you let me join you.”
My breath hitched as I remembered the last time we ‘showered’ together.
“Yes, please,” I breathed out.
Jake chuckled. He opened the back door of the cab and waved for me to go inside before him. It was even more uncomfortable sitting down. I couldn’t help wondering what would happen if I had a stain on the back of my dress. It was colored dark, thankfully, but still. He got in beside me and told the driver where to take us.
It wasn’t too far, but the name of the hotel surprised me. It was a pretty place, and not one I could afford to stay in with my current financial status.
Then again, now that I knew who his dad was, I didn’t need to worry about whether he could afford it.
“Oh, I almost forgot,” I muttered, pulling my purse into my lap and ruffling inside it.
“What is it?”
“I’m just sending a quick text; it’s nothing important.”
Even though I hadn't outright said it, he might think I lived in an apartment close by, or in the dorms. For either one, I might have a roommate that would expect me back. Of course, there was no roommate, but I had to let at least my mom know, or she’d be worried.
After I disappeared on them for so long that one time, I couldn’t help thinking they were worried I’d do the same thing again out of the blue. I’d told them plenty of times I wouldn’t, and they were getting better about trusting me, but it wasn’t like I had much to leave the house for before there was school, and I still went back home.
They’d be worried if I said nothing and didn’t go back.
I’ll be home tomorrow morning, so don’t worry.
Then, I turned my phone off and put it back in my purse.
“It’s fine now?” he asked.
I pouted. “It’ll be fine when we make it to your hotel room,” I murmured.
He chuckled and held me close to his side with the arm around my shoulders.
Chapter Nineteen
Jake
Meeting Klara had been a pleasant surprise, and I wasn’t ready for it to be over so quickly. After we spent the night at my hotel, she had to go back home. But, this time I had more information about her, and more importantly, I had her phone number.
