I was slow to wake up in the morning. For the first time in so long I wanted to be lazy and not get up before the sun rose. I tightened my arms around the warm body I held against my chest and sighed happily, nuzzling Brooklyn’s soft hair. Now that my mind was up, I wouldn’t be going back to sleep, but I was too comfortable to care about that. It wasn’t something that happened for me often, so I was going to enjoy it while I had the chance.
It was a long while later when Brooklyn started to stir in my arms. I pressed a kiss to her forehead and waited for her to open her eyes and look up at me. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she squinted up at me. Then, her eyes blew wide open as she gasped. She tried to pull away from me, but I tightened my arms around her, and she froze.
“Where you going?” I asked, arching an eyebrow.
She blinked, and I saw her face darkening in a blush before she ducked her head to hide under the covers.
“Nowhere,” she said, her voice small and muffled.
I smirked and tugged the sheet lower to her shoulders, then put a finger under her chin and tilted her head up. She had a slight pout on her lips as she looked up at me.
“Can't you at least be happy to see me this early in the morning?” I murmured, pressing another kiss to her lips. “Don’t tell me you’re already regretting last night.”
My heart clenched in my chest, and I hoped that she didn’t. From the moment I met her, I had been thinking about every action I took with her. I remembered her words last night that she didn’t want to be heartbroken again because of me, and I had no intention of hurting her this time. I was still thinking, but that much I was sure of.
After a long moment, when I thought my heart might stop, she let out a sigh and shook her head. My own body relaxed, and I grinned at her so she wouldn’t know just how much her answer meant to me.
“I can't regret it after I allowed it, can I?” she said, speaking more to herself than me. “I’ll just have to deal with the consequences later.”
“Hey, what do you mean by consequences?” I complained, mock frowning down at her. “Last night wasn’t that bad.”
She smiled up at me. “I didn’t say that. Why are you being all moody? I already said I didn’t regret it.”
I hummed, then leaned down for a proper kiss. She kissed me back, and I smiled against her lips as I pressed harder against her. Before I could deepen the kiss, I felt her palms push against my chest, and I stopped immediately.
“What?” I asked in a whisper, my breath coming a little fast.
“Brush your teeth first,” Brooklyn whispered back. “And me, too. We both have morning breath.”
I was still for a moment, then I chuckled. I was a little reluctant to let her go. I was worried that if I left her alone, she might run away from me. But clinging too much at the moment might do just as much harm, so I let her go. Besides, sometime apart, even if for only a few minutes, might do us some good.
“I’ll go take a shower,” I said, sliding out of bed. “You can stay in bed a little more. Our flight won’t be until way later.”
“How long is later?”
I looked around for my clothes, and searched through them to get to my cell and check the time.
“It’s only nine now, and the flight is around three. I’ll shower, then order us breakfast while you go in, okay?”
I turned to look at her, only to catch her staring at me with her mouth open. I was surprised, then amused, then aroused.
“Should you be looking at me like that right now? You’re the one that forced me out of bed.”
She frowned, regaining herself, and was careful to keep her gaze on my face. “I didn’t force you. Now go, use the bathroom already. I want to go in, too.” she wrinkled her nose, holding the sheets tight to her chest. “I need to clean up from last night.”
I chuckled as I walked toward the bathroom. I took a last glance over my shoulder before I closed the door behind me, and I was satisfied to catch her still watching me. I took a quick shower, and found a toothbrush and a tiny tube of toothpaste, tossing both out after I used them. There was a robe hanging off the back of the door, and I pulled one on before walking into the bedroom. Brooklyn was still lying in bed, and when she saw me walk out, she got up, with the sheets wrapped around her, and walked into the bathroom.
“I’ll order breakfast,” I called through the door. “Is there anything specific you’d want?”
“Whatever you get is fine,” she said back.
I got dressed quickly and moved to the other room. I called the kitchen to see what they had available, and I ordered breakfast with a smirk on my face. It took about half an hour before the food was brought up, and by then, Brooklyn had stepped out of the bathroom already.
“Are you dressed?” I asked before I walked in on her.
I heard a few thumps, then the sheets rustling, before everything suddenly went quiet.
“You can come,” she said, sounding a bit nervous.
