“Not tonight. I’ve shared my wife long enough. We’re going up to bed.” He steps past her and onto the back patio, his hand outstretched toward me. I take it.

“You’re staying?” Charlotte asks.

“We told Sophia we would,” I answer before Hunter can.

“You brought my wife out into the cold without a coat?” Hunter ignores Charlotte, speaking to Webster.

“Thought it was better out here. That Jacob was eye-fucking her.” Hunter’s hand that’s holding mine tightens. He gives it a tug, pulling me into his side.

“Webster!” I squeak. “No one was…” I trail off.

“He was not,” Charlotte hisses. “He’s married.”

“I call it as I see it.” Webster shrugs.

“I appreciate that. I feel a promotion is in your future, Webster.”

“About time someone saw my potential. That said, I better get back to my bar. See you later, Aspen.” She winks at me before slipping back into the house.

“Let’s get you inside.” Hunter leads me back into the house, right past Charlotte, not sparing her a glance. I try to fight a smug smile, but I fail miserably.

Charlotte’s sour face is an early Christmas present. I have a feeling with my new husband it’s only going to be one of many.

It really shouldn’t be this hard to get my wife alone. At every turn, someone has been trying to stop me or get in my way. Jacob being one of them. He was on me the second I left Edwin’s office. Oddly, he was asking if I was considering taking a step back now that I had a wife. If things would be changing.

They will be, but that’s not something he needs to be thinking about. More so after what Webster had told me about him eye-fucking my wife. I almost feel sorry for his wife, but she can be as bad as him. She’s made it clear on a few occasions that I was more than welcome to any part of her.

Honestly, I think the offer is more out of revenge. When he married Chelsea years ago, she’d been the smiley type. Everyone had always referred to her as sunshine, but that had faded over the years. I don’t know why she doesn’t get out.

Maybe if I was a different type of man, I would have taken her up on the offer, but for as much of an asshole as I can be, I keep my hands clean and the drama out of my life. Plus, she’s far from my type. One I didn’t know I had until my angel.

“It must be awkward for you having your stepsister be in love with you,” Aspen whispers as I guide her up the stairs to the room my mother saved for us. Aspen’s eyes widen when she realizes she said that loud enough for me to hear, her hand going over her mouth.

“If she is in love with me, it’s not real.”

“I shouldn’t have said that. I told myself I wouldn't. I’m sorry. She’s your family.”

“You shouldn’t be sorry for speaking your mind, angel.” I open the door to our room, pulling her in. No sooner is the door closed than I have her pressed against it, flipping the lock into place. Finally. I’m alone with her and not in a fucking bathroom. She deserves more than me almost fucking her in a bathroom at a party, but if I said I regretted it, I’d be lying. “I don’t want you keeping anything from me. If you’re thinking something, I want to know.”

“It’s your family,” she repeats as if that matters. I couldn’t care less who it was.

“Don’t give a shit. We’re married. Our little family comes first, and we’re not going to keep things from each other. Do you want that kind of marriage?” She shakes her head no.

“When you say it like that…”

“And this is your family too.” Her nose scrunches. “Charlotte is a bitch. Her father is a good man, but I won’t have her disrespecting you. I’m going to speak with her.”

“You don’t have to. I don’t want to cause problems.”

“The only thing that is a problem is someone making my wife uncomfortable. That would be a huge issue for me.” To my horror, tears start to fill her eyes. “Angel, are people being that cruel to you?” What the fuck did I miss? Something must have happened when I stepped away with Edwin. I never should have left her side for a second.

“No.” She sniffles, a smile forming on her lips, which are still puffy from how often I’ve been kissing her. My cock, which is already hard, starts to throb. It’s the wrong time, but I can’t help it when it comes to her. Even the smell of her is arousing to me. “You’re so sweet and caring. I’m not used to it. I’ve never had anyone who cared for me the way that you do.”
