“I had fun today.” I reach out and touch her cheek with my fingertips.

“Me too.” She tilts her face into my hand. “You headed home?”

“I’ll check in at the station first. File a report on the house.”

A little smile curls her lips. “A partial report?”

“I don’t have to include everything.”

Her hand covers mine, and she turns her face to kiss my palm. “I guess I’d better go.”

She starts to pull away, but I catch her cheeks for one more kiss. It’s soft but hot, hungry, and only temporarily satisfying. Making love to this woman was better than I’d fantasized.

I put the truck in park, ready to go around and help her out, walk her to the door, kiss her again, but she stops me. “Better not. I do need to get some work done today.”

“I’ll call you.”

“Text is good.”

I watch as she walks to the door, dressed in my shirt and those cutoffs that show off the curve of her sassy little ass. She stops and waves before going inside, and I can’t help a groan as I pull out of the driveway, headed back to my place.

Lying on my bed, I’ve eaten dinner, showered, and I have a glass of scotch on the side table. I hold up my phone and type out a text. Still working?

A few seconds pass, a few more, then I see the gray dots of her composing a reply. Having a hard time concentrating.

I smile, picturing her dark hair wrapped in a bun with a pencil stuck through it. It’s what she always does when she’s working at Emberly’s store. Something on your mind?

A few seconds pass. More like some body.

I like the sound of that. What are you supposed to be doing?

Finishing up the travel agency site, adding pictures and linking blog reviews.

Interesting. What’s the location?

Isle of Vin in Croatia. Supposedly the best beach in Europe.

I think about the places I’ve seen. I was in Madagascar. It’s supposedly Eden.

Will we be naked?

I have no objection to that.

Is it legal?

I have no jurisdiction in Africa.

A few seconds pass, and I grin, wondering if I’ve stumped her. She finally replies, I think I’m a bad influence on you.

Just getting to know me better.

Another little pause, then the gray dots appear. Want to see what I’m doing?

My stomach tightens, and I glance at the clock. It’s after ten, and I’m off the bed pulling on my jeans, a tee, putting a ball cap on my head. It doesn’t take long to drive the truck the few miles to her house, especially at this time of night.

I ease the truck to parking then slide out as I’m texting my reply. Sure.

Took long enough.
