With that, my friend vanishes and I stare after her, perplexed. It’s weird that she took off so suddenly. Oh well, maybe Tim wants to get it on and he texted her while I wasn’t looking. Meanwhile, I turn back to my boyfriend.
“So are you cooking tonight?” I ask coyly. “I love that beef goulash you make.”
He comes over and seizes my mouth with his.
“Anything for you, Carolyn. But actually, I have something else on my mind. Suddenly, he takes my hands in his own and drops to one knee before looking me in the eye. “You’re the most beautiful, kind, and incredible woman I’ve ever known, sweetheart.”
My heart starts to race. “Preston…?”
But my boyfriend’s on a roll. “Carolyn Kraft, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to raise our baby together and make you as happy as you deserve to be. In fact, I want to make more babies with you because you’re going to be a wonderful mommy to this one.” Then, he pops open a box that’s appeared in his hand, and inside is a beautiful platinum band with an enormous diamond in the center. “Carolyn Kraft, this ring will never be enough to express my adoration, but will you make me the luckiest man alive and grant me your hand in marriage?”
I can’t keep from crying even as Preston takes my palm in his own.
“Yes!” I exclaim. “Yes, yes, yes!”
With a smile, Preston slides the ring onto my finger. It fits perfectly, and sparkles gorgeous in the light.
“You’re beautiful,” my handsome fiancé murmurs in my ear.
I giggle while nuzzling his lips for a kiss.
“Thank you,” I sigh with happiness. “But are we going to have a wedding? You know, the big kind with a white dress, hundreds of guests, and a fancy reception? After all, you know what we did at Zora’s wedding almost a year ago now. What happens if we do it again?” I tease.
But Preston’s blue eyes only glow with love.
“I’d do all of it with you again, sweetheart. And even more,” he vows. “I’ll get you pregnant at any place or any time.”
I laugh because clearly, that’s over the top. But my fiancé’s gaze is fierce as he looks at me.
“Sweetheart, I mean it,” he says in a soft voice. “Once upon a time, I was the father of the bride, but now, I’m the groom and I can’t wait for you to be mine permanently.”
It’s then that my heart flips over with love and adoration for the handsome billionaire. Yes, we were naughty our first time together, but all’s well that ends well. Preston and I have progressed way beyond wedding guest hook-up to the real thing and now, he won’t just be the father of the bride; he’ll be a father for the second time.
