“Just got held up at work. Did we have plans?” I asked.
“Since when the fuck did I need plans to come see my best friend?” she asked.
“I just wanted to make sure I didn’t make plans then forget them because of the long day.”
“Nah. Figured we could eat the rest of that leftover pizza and crack open some more beers.”
“I’m honestly feeling like it’s a water kind of night,” I said.
“Whatever. More for me. So, what held ya up at work?”
“Training for this in-house counsel position. There’s way too much for this job to be part-time,” I said.
“Then talk to one of them brothers about it. Who does the money shit again?”
“Dylan.”
“Yeah, talk to Dylan.”
“But Caleb deals with all the employees.”
“Then talk to Caleb,” she said.
“I’ll figure it out. Right now, leftover pizza with my best friend sounds like a good idea.”
I wasn’t hungry at all, but I wasn’t about to tell her what had actually happened. I knew Lizzie would be the last person to judge me for something like that, but it was still so fresh. As of now, the memory was only mine and Andrew’s to reminisce on, and I wanted to keep it that way for a little bit.
I also wanted to give myself some time to sort out what in the world was going on. Because I was only one brother away from sleeping with al
l of them, and something kept telling me I’d have to come clean to them sooner or later.
And that thought scared me more than Hunter finding out about all this.
“Katie?”
“Yeah? Huh? Sorry. Really long day,” I said.
“Well, get up here and get off them feet. This front door ain’t gonna unlock itself,” Lizzie said.
“Why don’t we ever do this stuff at your place?” I asked.
“Because you hate my place, remember?”
“Because you have a shitty roommate.”
“Wow, you really must’ve had a long day if you’re cussin’ and shit.”
“Or maybe you’re rubbing off on me,” I said with a grin.
“Whatever the case, come on. There’s four slices of pizza in there callin’ our names and a Golden Girls marathon on.”
“I didn’t know you liked that show. How the hell did I not know you liked that show?” I asked.
“‘Cause I don’t advertise that shit. Now come on. We’re missin’ the best parts.”
