I thought about Travis and Patrick and how uncomfortable they made me feel under their heated looks. My heart accelerated, and once again I remembered my dream from this morning. I wouldn’t have changed a single second of it.
“Not at all,” I replied.
“I’m glad to hear that. Well, let me show you your new office. Please, come with me. I’ll give you the full tour.”
We walked through a long hallway, passing offices as I looked around curiously. LQT was a busy company and the headquarters were huge. Somehow, I felt good about being a part of such a large firm. I even had my own office. That was great for a start. Eventually, this would be a stepping stone to a prestigious firm. Or maybe even opening my own practice.
Mr. Keith and I chatted on our way to my office, and I got to know more about LQT. I could see why he was in HR. He was definitely a people person.
“Here we are,” Mr. Keith announced and ushered me into my office.
I entered the small room that was simply furnished. There
was a desk, filing cabinet, and shelves on the wall. I didn’t need anything more than that. A set of windows provided enough light, and I already felt cozy here. I liked it.
“Welcome to LQT, Ms. Lawson.”
“Thank you so much.” I smiled at my host.
“Okay then. I’ll leave you to settle in. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me.”
“Thank you, Mr. Keith.”
He left several moments later, and I took a deep breath, looking around my office again. I approached my desk and put my purse on it, already planning what I would do later. The place could use a few pictures. Maybe some art. I smiled.
My phone rang, startling me from my decorating plans. I retrieved it from my purse and saw my best friend’s name on the screen.
“Hey, Sarah,” I answered.
“Hey. I called to wish you a good luck on your first day.”
I smiled, approaching the window. “Thank you.”
The view wasn’t anything spectacular, since all I could see was the wall of a nearby building, but the visible patch of clear sky had a calming effect on me. There were a few clouds, and my eyes followed their lines, unable to look away.
“So how is it?” she asked.
“I have my own office. Can you believe it?
She squealed. “Really? That’s amazing. I can’t wait to see it.”
“Yeah.”
“What’s it like?”
I glanced at the sparse furnishings. “Well, it’s nothing special. It’s small and it has the basic furniture, but it won’t take me long to put a personal touch on it.”
“I’m glad to hear that, Cassie. And what are your bosses like? I need the scoop on these guys.”
I’d mentioned them to Sarah, but I didn’t go into detail. I turned my head around and glanced at the open door, checking if someone was there, but the hallway was empty.
“I’ve been dying to tell someone. God, Sarah. They are amazing. Insanely hot and sexy.”
I could imagine her raising her eyebrows and smirking. “Nice. Both of them?”
“Both of them,” I said with complete confidence. They were the most gorgeous men I had laid eyes on.
“Lucky you,” she teased.
