“I have to tell you something,” I announced.
I brought them a tie box and opened it, revealing two wrapped packages.
“What’s this? You bought us new ties?” Travis asked as Patrick reached for the package.
I shook my head. “No. Open the packages.”
They unwrapped them and froze when they saw positive pregnancy tests. I grinned widely. “I took two just to be sure,” I explained. “And then I realized it was the perfect way to tell you this.”
“Cassie,” Travis muttered, his face showing disbelief and joy.
“You are going to be daddies!”
I shrieked when they jumped up immediately and grabbed me, pulling me into a suffocating embrace. “Baby, I can’t believe this!” Patrick said, laughing happily into my hair. “I’m so happy! I love you, Cassie! We are going to be daddies!”
He looked at Travis and high fived him. Travis was looking at me like he wanted to devour me. “Cassie, that’s the best news I’ve ever heard. I’m so happy. You have no idea how much I love you.” He crashed his lips against mine. I was feeling bubbly, my excitement filling my every pore.
“We’re so happy to know our baby is inside of you. Cassie, we promise you that we are going to take care of you and the baby,” Patrick said with a serious face. His eyes were glistening, and I wondered if he was actually going to cry. “You are forever ours.”
“But I’m going to keep working,” I insisted. “I love the law and all the perks that come with being in the same office as you, guys. No matter what, I’ll always be your teammate, remember?”
Travis caressed my cheek. “Always, Cassie.”
“So? What do you think—is it a boy or girl?” Patrick asked. “If it’s a girl, I would like her to be like Cassie—pretty and cute.”
“And if she looks like me?” Travis teased him. “Maybe she’ll inherit my beauty.”
“You wish. You’re as ugly as they come.”
I laughed. “And if it’s a boy?”
“Then he will be pretty as me,” Patrick continued, gleaming with happiness. “I’m the one with the sexy genes here.”
“I think Cassie would disagree. After all, she does have the hots for me too.”
I chuckled, watching them joking as my chest filled with warmth. How not to love these two?
I was definitely the happiest woman alive, and our life together had just begun.
