I could hear how quickly Bianca was talking over the phone as I pressed my ear up to the receiver. Jessica grabbed my hand and we rose to our feet, then the two of us walked over toward the woods. Jessica tried to calm Bianca down. Telling her it was going to be all right, that we were here and if she needed us, we could come see her. We got to the edge of the woods, away from the Wilder family, then we put her on speakerphone.

And my heart broke when I heard her crying.

“Sweetheart, what is it?” I asked.

“Andrea. I’m in so… so much—”

She sniffled before she drew in a broken breath and my worried eyes whipped over to Jessica.

“Can you tell us what’s going on? Or do we need to come to the apartment?” Jessica asked.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Bianca said.

“What do you need to do something about?” I asked.

Bianca broke down into sobs and worry captured my heart.

“Should we leave?” I mouthed to Jessica.

“The party,” Bianca breathed.

“What party?” Jessica asked.

“The… Wilder party,” she said.

“What about it?” I asked.

“The guy. From the hotel. H-he… he-... uh—”

“Bianca. I need you to gather yourself together for just a second so you can talk to us. Otherwise, we’re hanging up this phone and coming to see you,” I said.

Silence fell over the phone as Bianca drew in a deep breath. I knew that would get her attention. She hated it when people saw her cry or break down. But worry had fully settled over Jessica and myself, and now that we knew it had something to do with the party a couple of months ago, the worst-case scenario possible blanketed my mind.

“You don’t think…?” Jessica asked.

“I’m pregnant, you guys,” Bianca said.

I felt my face pale as Jessica’s jaw dropped wide open.

“And the only person I can think about is the guy from the party. Because I hadn’t been with anyone in months and I haven’t been with anyone since,” she said.

“Have you taken a test?” Jessica asked.

“I’m staring at four positive pregnancy tests now,” Bianca breathed.

And then, she broke down into tears again.

Oh, shit. Bianca was pregnant.

“We have to go,” I said to Jess.

“Bianca? Can you hear me?” Jessica asked.

“Y-y-yeah…” she said.

“Andrea and I are headed your way. Okay?” Jessica asked.

“No, no, no. Let me clean up. I-I-I don’t—”
