Lucas
I laid there in bed next to Jessica and my phone began vibrating. I drew in a deep breath and sighed, not wanting to pull myself away from her. She felt warm. Soft. Her leg was thrown over my waist and her cheek laid upon my chest. My eyes fluttered open as the vibrating stopped and I wondered what time it was.
I had fallen into a deep sleep with her at my side.
Of course she would have ushered me into sleep. Taken my hand and sank me into a blissful reunion with a concept I hadn’t attached myself to in over a decade. My beautiful little angel, wrapped up in the perfect package to keep me warm and keep me whole. A sleepy smile slid across my cheeks. I wanted to sleep next to her forever. I didn’t want to leave the comfort of her body. As I laid there in her bed, drawing in the settled scent of our sex around me, my heart fluttered in my chest.
This woman already had me wrapped around her little finger.
Stroking my fingers through her hair, my phone began vibrating again. Only that time, it pissed me off. Who the hell was calling me at such an early hour? I didn’t know, and I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to have my time with Jessica spoiled because one my idiot brothers wanted to see what I was up to before the sun came up. I reached over to grab my phone and hit the mute button. I wasn’t about to ruin this moment with this beautiful woman against me.
Jessica groaned and shifted, her body pushing further into me as her soft tits pressed against my side. I loved it. Every part of her draped over me while she slept. Like she couldn't get enough of me, even in her dreams. I smiled and kissed the top of her head, my fingertips stroking every part of her I could find. Her warmth was comforting to me and her presence was overwhelming in all the best ways.
The sun still wasn’t up yet, but I could tell it was on the later side of the evening.
I rolled us both other and wrapped my arms around her. I buried my face into the crook of her neck and drew in her scent. Vanilla with a hint of honey and the musk of my cock. She was mine, and no one else would have her after the night we’d spent together. She was perfect for me. Sweet and kind with a sassy and lewd side I knew I’d never be able to get enough of. Plus, the comfort of having her at my side helped me to sleep. That suddenly made me curious as to what time it was.
Reaching over to grab my phone, I picked it up. But I couldn't even activate the screen before another phone call came rolling in. The vibrations shook my hand as my eyes attempted to focus. I was about to cuss out whoever the hell was calling me in the middle of the best after-date
I’d ever experienced.
But my heart rate picked up when I saw it was Everett. What the fuck was he doing calling at four in the morning?
“Hello?” I asked groggily.
“Are ya fuckin’ kiddin’ me with this shit, Lucas? You’re the only one that doesn’t sleep and I gotta call three times to get ya to pick up!?”
“Everett, what’s going on?”
“It’s all gone, Lucas. I’m looking at it and it’s just gone. Ashes. Everything we’ve worked so hard for and there’s nothing left. Ya have to get over here. Everyone is coming and the fire department is roaring down the road and—”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down.”
“Lucas?”
A sweet groggy voice caught my attention and I felt guilt pool in my gut. I hated waking Jessica up at such an early hour. I looked over at her as her eyes fluttered open, worry immediately filling her sky-blue eyes.
“Everything okay?” she asked.
“Who the fuck is that!?” Everett exclaimed.
“None of your damn business. Now slow down and talk to me about what the hell’s going on.”
I kissed Jessica’s forehead before I sat up. I swung my legs over the bed as horns sounded in the distance. I walked over butt naked to Jessica’s window and watched multiple fire trucks roar off in the distance. Lights flashed and police cars skidded around corners and I felt my heart stop.
I heard Everett talking in my ear, but I couldn't hear what he was saying. The only thing I could focus on was the glow in the distance. The reddish hue with a twinge of orange that tossed thick black smoke into the air. I felt my knees growing weak.
I knew what direction that was.
I knew what had happened.
“Everett?” I asked.
“Lucas?” Jessica asked.
I felt her arms wrap around my waist as her cheek pressed into the middle of my back.
“You need to get over here now,” Everett said. “It’s gone. Everything we’ve worked so hard for has just burned to the ground.”
