“The person in the woods was watching us, not just the house or what might be going on over here.”

He pulled out his gun and turned to point it toward the woods. “Whoever is out there, if you even think about touching my man, you’ll know pain like you’ve never imagined. I won’t end you slowly.” He turned his weapon toward the sky and shot into the air.

“What the fuck? Someone’s going to call the police.”

“Plenty of people hunt out here. No one’s going to think anything about a single shot.”

“That’s a pistol, not a rifle shot and—”

“If anybody comes to investigate, we’ll say it was an accident. Or we just won’t answer the door.” He started moving toward me, forcing me to walk backward toward the cabin.

“You really think if there was someone out there, they’re just going to listen to you?”

“Maybe. Maybe not, but you’re going to listen to me. You’re going to come inside and explore the cabin so you can tell me if it’s everything you want. If it’s not—”

I laid a finger over his lips. “Devil, I’m sure it’s perfect.”

“I want you to check.”

Could I love this man any more? “Should we get our bags?”

“I’ll handle that.”

The cabin was, in fact, perfect. It had an open living area with a high ceiling. The rafters were exposed, and despite knowing it must have luxurious amenities or Devil wouldn’t have rented it, the rustic style made it easier to pretend I was back at my foster parents’ place.

There was a small kitchen with high-end appliances tucked under the loft and a half bath on the lower level.

“Ready to see the upstairs?” Devil asked.

I took his hand, and we climbed the stairs. I loved how eager he was for me to approve of his choice. Even if his methods were suspect, he’d put a lot of care into planning this trip.

The bedroom had a California king like it had been designed for a couple to thoroughly enjoy themselves. There was a connected full bath, which was even more luxurious than I’d expected. This was obviously a place where wealthy people pretended to be roughing it. Strange as it was, Devil was slowly turning me into that type of person. I’d gotten pretty damn used to the luxuries he indulged in despite making plenty of time to mock his easy life.

“Damn,” Devil said. “There are even jets in the shower.”

I glanced into the huge, glass-walled shower and saw he was right. I tugged on his arm, encouraging him to turn toward me. “This place is just what I wanted. Why don’t we go see if we can make good use of the huge bed? That was a selling point for you, wasn’t it?”

Devil smirked. “Maybe, but we’re not going to use it just yet.”

I stared at him. “That’s a joke, right? You’re not going to deny me the right to make you scream after kidnapping me and dragging me here.”

“What if I was?”

“First of all, I wouldn’t believe you could hold out that long.”

Devil sniffed and gave me a look of mock offense. “I can do whatever I need or want to do.”

I stared at him, trying to figure out what game he was playing.

Laughter burst from him after a few seconds. “I love the look on your face. You know I can’t deny you anything, but we’re trying out this fucking shower first.”

“Since when do you mind me all sweaty and dirty?”

“Never, but this shower looks heavenly, so we should make use of it.”

I could see his point, and I didn’t mind that at all.

“Get naked,” he demanded.

“So fucking bossy.”

“Do it.”

For now, I’d let him take charge, but eventually I’d make sure he got the torment he deserved. As I removed my coat, I remembered I had handcuffs in my pocket. I’d brought them in case I’d tracked down Donaldson. They would come in handy later.

As Devil turned the water on, I reached around him, undid his pants, and shoved them down before squeezing his plump ass cheeks and tugging them apart. “One thing I’m going to enjoy is having you at my mercy up here where I can make you scream.”

Devil shivered and turned to face me. “Keep talking like that and I’m not going to let you out of bed the whole time we’re here.”

“Not even to go play in Christmastown?”

“If I have to choose between you and a holiday craft fair, I’m going to pick you every time.”

“I’m glad to hear that, but you can have both. We can’t actually fuck twenty-four hours a day.”

“Are you sure? Maybe we should try.”

I grinned. “Maybe.”

He kissed me then, and I stopped thinking about all the things I was neglecting to be here. I leaned back against the wall and enjoyed the warmth of him surrounding me.

I tugged on his shirt, trying to lift it over his head. “I need you naked too. I need my hands on your skin.”
