Thank You

Thank you for reading REAL LOVE! I hope you enjoyed spending a little time with Kyla and the men in her life.

Still jonesing for romance, check out DESPERATE DESIRE for a peek into Kyla’s sister Corianne’s world.

Cori is the epitome of a desperate housewife. Everyday she asks her self the same question, How desperate do you have to be, to break your marriage vows?

Corianne Abernathy never envied her older sister Kyla until she got married. Prior to her marriage, Corianne secretly referred to her sister as the family tramp. Now they were equals. Both married to successful men. Only difference, Kyla knew where her husband spent his nights and Corianne didn’t.

After two years of being a desperate, lonely housewife, Corianne is about to take matters into her own hands courtesy of a distraction from her husband.

Corianne drew a large red “X” on yesterday. Making it twenty-two months, two weeks, six days and twelve hours since she and Dexter last had sex. She watched Kyla and Sean a few months ago at their reception, and for the first time she envied her older sister.

Kyla was defiant and marched to her own beat. Although Corianne constantly teased her about settling down, she secretly wanted what Kyla had. Kyla had a lover and no one to come home to or share her life with, but she was having incredible sex. While Corianne had a husband, a home and some day a baby. She was happy, at least that’s what she told herself.

To everyone who knew her, Corianne was living a fairytale life. But the reality was she was living a nightmare. She longed for someone to call her beautiful, wrap her in his arms and sweep her off her feet, just like she read in all the romance novels stacked in her closet. She wanted someone to kiss her the way Sean kissed Kyla. It was clear to everyone at their wedding and reception how much they loved each other.

When Corianne looked at Kyla, she was jealous. Now Kyla had the perfect life complete with the wonderful, adoring husband, who made her a priority. And from the looks of the way they moved on the dance floor and the way he kissed her, he was doing a good job at keeping her satisfied in the bedroom. Corianne looked at the calendar and sighed, twenty-two months. How much longer could she hold out?

Every morning she prayed God would heal her marriage. Every night, she showered and got all dolled up after dinner, hoping tonight would be the end of the sex drought. And every night, the same thing. Dexter would review files for the next day, reply to some emails, shower, peck her on the forehead and less than ten minutes later, he was snoring.

She wasn’t sure how this happened, but she knew the date because that was the anniversary of their first date. She told herself, not every man remembers the small things so she cut him a little slack. That was until Sean said he remembered the day he met Kyla and described everything she was wearing. At the end of his toast, Corianne felt even sadder. She knew if she went missing and the police asked Dexter to describe what she was wearing, he’d probably say something like, “I think it was purple or maybe it was green. I’m pretty sure it was a dress, I think.” But here’s her sister, the family tramp, with a handsome, caring, loving, reformed alcoholic Christian husband, who remembers what she was wearing over six years ago.

Today was just like every other day. Cori made breakfast and they sat in quiet. Once Dexter finished, he kissed her on the forehead and left. She loaded the dishes into the dishwasher and sat on the terrace staring. If she was frustrated, Dexter had to be bouncing off the walls, or he was getting his needs met elsewhere.

“Maybe Dexter has

a lover or maybe he’s banging his office manager, Melissa. No, she’s not his type. I bet it’s that young blond intern he was mentoring. Or maybe it’s the redhead neurologist he introduced me to at last year’s hospital Christmas party.“ She sipped some coffee. “Typical successful black man. They always do that. Once they become successful, they always trade chocolate for vanilla.”

That’s what she was, last year’s flavor. Cori realized no matter how hard she tried seducing Dexter, it wouldn’t help, because he no longer liked chocolate, but vanilla, or some other flavor. Not only was her husband ignoring her, it felt as if God was also ignoring her. She resolved herself to take matters into her own hands.

She picked up her phone and pressed Dexter’s number and waited for the voice mail to kick in.
