“Routine, right! That’s totally cool. Perse has taken over for Delila, and trust me when I say, she is far more accommodating.” Saskia leans back in her seat and I relax a little now that there’s space between us. “Are you angry at us for killing your father?” I don’t bother looking at her. I don’t need to.
“No,” I say truthfully. “Though something tells me that you already knew my answer before you asked.”
“Here you guys are!” A shirtless guy wearing loose jeans strolls over to us, taking the empty chair beside me.
I stare at him from behind my shoulder. He’s cute. The kind of cute you play with just to see their fluff stick up. His face pinches in when he notices me watching him.
Huh.
I don’t know why people do that.
“Your eyes are like—purple?”
That’s it? That’s all he has to say. Giggling, I stand to my feet. “Lilac.” I swallow the rest of my drink, swiping my mouth with the back of my hand. “And I was told it’s a deformity. Something about being the product of evil.” I reach for the bottle of Jack lying on the ground and flick off the cap. “Rather the product of evil than the target for it though, right?” I smirk at him from behind my now filled glass.
“Jesus Christ.” The boy shakes his head, running his hand through his hair. “You’re right. She’s fucked up.”
A slight chuckle leaves me at the sight of his cute little fluff all ruffled. “Saski, what are you saying about me? You’re scaring people.”
She laughs harshly. “Oh, you know, just to be careful of you because you carry knives.”
“Not that I need them…” I wink at Ruffled Fluff.
“Not that she needs them,” Saskia corrects, raising her glass in the air before turning her head toward someone in the crowd.
I follow her sight until my eyes land on the guy who picked me up and dragged me out of the room after they killed my father, the leader of Patience. He didn’t say a word when he took me to Saskia and Killian’s RV. Not a single one. It was fine. I prefer silence.
“Sigh.” Ruffled Fluff, or as I now assume is Kenan, exhales, taking a swig of his drink. “He still won’t let me hit that.”
“Really?” I ask, one eyebrow raised. “You’re hot. Why wouldn’t he?”
“Is he even into men?” Another new voice comes into our conversation, sitting beside Saskia. I don’t know who this girl is, but Saskia quickly introduces her as Rose, the other person I’ll be living with. Rose has olive skin, light eyes, and a softness I’m not used to. The kind of softness that crawls beneath my skin and makes me itch until it disappears.
“No.” Kenan shuffles in his chair. “At least I don’t think so.”
“Maybe you’re just not his type?” I shrug, just as Sass moves her chair closer to mine.
Before he even said the words, I knew what he was going to say. Kenan. A cliché.
“I’m everyone’s type!”
I don’t bother to tell him that he isn’t mine.
He places a joint between his lips and lights the end, sucking in the sweet smoke of ganja. I gesture for it once he has finished and he passes it to me while exhaling. “You’re hot, too, Lilith. If I was straight, I’d totally be hitting that.”
“Kenan, shut the fuck up.” Keaton slaps him upside the head while lowering onto an empty chair beside me.
Curling my lips, I gently blow soft smoke rings into the air, shaking my head. “I’m not even slightly interested. Though, you have a cute baby brother thing going on for you.”
“It’s the muscles, isn’t it? They’re not big enough.”
My eyes fly over his shoulder, landing on Kyrin. He is distracting, but not enough to take my train of thought off the fact that Kenan is asking why he’s not my type. “Nope, not your muscles.” Kyrin’s dressed in dark jeans, black shirt, and has dark brown floppy hair that brushes over a forehead and face that is honestly too pretty to not smile. “You’re not damaged enough.”
“Damn, girl.” Keaton kicks my leg with his. “You’re a whole party, huh?”
I run my tongue over my pointed canines, the corner of my mouth twitching. “Always.”
Kenan shuffles around uncomfortably when he notices Kyrin standing behind him even though Kyrin’s expression is frozen. If it wasn’t for the slight clench in his jaw, I would say he is unfazed. He isn’t. He seems slightly agitated. Whether anyone else picks it up with me is another story.
“Settle the fuck down.” Kyrin moves sinuously around Keaton, his hand resting on his shoulder. “Perse needs us. Looks like we’ve got a new fucking member.”
This was a bad fucking idea and I called that shit exactly when Saskia decided to bring in a new little pet. There was, of course, no fucking reasoning with Killian. Saskia could say she wanted a goddamn planet, and the idiot would be on the phone to NASA like, “Yeah, someone give my girl a fucking planet or bodies start dropping.”
