Sky stood up and a low growl rumbled in her throat.

“Three boys. Find ‘em and bring them out!” The voice belonged to Leonard. Of course, the lazy ass wouldn’t do anything himself. Indi waited. He could only imagine how terrified Hollister and the boys were downstairs, tucked away in his safe room. Hollister might try to talk the talk, but he definitely wasn’t gangster material—not even a future soldier. Damn Levi Trace for getting Hollister involved in this clusterfuck.

Minutes passed. Finally, Indi heard, “Ain’t nobody in there, boss. Nobody. We searched the entire place, top to bottom.”

Indi could imagine all of them looking in the direction of his house. He was ready. He’d been talking bullshit to himself when he’d said his senses hadn’t improved after the loss of his eyesight. To be frank, he’d been on such a pity trip that he hadn’t even listened to his body. Now? He was fucking listening and these fuckers weren’t even attempting to be quiet as they stomped their way toward his house. Four heavy-steppers. Leonard’s walk had more stealth to it—harder to detect, but he could hear him…hear their whispers. Smiled when he heard Leonard warn them to be careful that Indi was more than a regular blind guy. He warned them about Sky and ordered them to shoot her on sight.

Fuck.

“Sky, bedroom. Now!” She whined and Indi could imagine it was her way of cursing at him. She was trained to protect him and knew she couldn’t do that from the bedroom. “Bedroom!”

He heard her claws tapping against the floor as she reluctantly obeyed his command. No sooner than Sky got settled in the bedroom, Indi heard the first kick to his door. He smiled. The door wouldn’t hold long but it was reinforced well enough that it would take several strong kicks to get it to give way. The plan had always been to give him enough time to get to the basement and the safe room. This time, the only time he’d ever needed it, he sat patiently on his sofa…waiting on them to burst their way into his sanctuary. Four kicks and the door still held. These fuckers could have never taken Clay and Levi.

“Open the fucking door!” Leonard yelled in frustration and probably a touch of embarrassment. “You can run but you can’t hide!” They all burst out in laughter when the door finally gave way. When the room quietened, Leonard said, “Oh, wait; you can’t run, can you? He’d run straight into a wall.”

“Or my fist.” One of the idiots said.

Like before, Indi noted where they were as they spoke or moved. Best he could tell, they were crowded around him as he sat on the sofa. Not smart at all. Of course, with Leonard as lead, they had to be a dumb crew.

Indi felt the air move as Leonard knelt in front of him, placing a hand on both Indi’s knees, like that childish move could stop Indi from attacking. How in the fuck had the Doctor gotten this far in business with these idiots leading the front line?

“Where’s the dog?” Leonard asked.

“Vet.”

“Where’s Hollister and his brothers?”

Indi pretended to look at his watch. “They left for the bus station about an hour ago. My guess is that they are on a bus going anywhere but here. Just a guess, of course.”

Leonard snorted and Indi cringed. He guessed the dude must not own a toothbrush. When all this was over, he would need to throat punch Hollister for letting this nasty bitch fuck him.

“You’re lying. That damn killer dog isn’t at the vet and Hollister never had an extra dollar. There’s no way he could afford bus tickets for himself, much less the boys, and I know he’d never leave them behind. He’s soft. It’s what’ll get you killed every time.”

Indi’s eyes narrowed.

“Let me ask you a question, Leonard?” Indi said softly. “Are you soft?” Indi felt Leonard’s body tense up.

“No, I’m not soft. I’m not blind either, you dumb fucker.”

As soon as the words left Leonard’s mouth, Indi reached down, grabbed both of Leonard’s hands that had been resting on Indi’s knees and twisted with enough force to snap both wrists. As Leonard howled in pain, Indi landed a solid kick to his chest, sending him sprawling through the air. From the humph sound Indi heard; Leonard must have landed against one of his men because it was definitely two bodies that hit the floor. The one guy wouldn’t stay down long. Knowing Leonard, he’d lay there and whine like the pussy he was.

Unsure of where the other two guys were, Indi was forced to wait to stand up and wait for an attack. Within seconds, he felt a punch to his jaw. The guy was directly in front of him. Before he could make a forward attack, the other guy grabbed him from behind in a choke hold. Thankfully Indi was fast enough to get a defensive arm up to protect his neck. Using the solid build of the man behind him, Indi lifted both legs and gut punched the man in front of him. Sad…he was aiming for his head. Mistakes. Ugh. While that guy recovered, he used the protective arm he’d gotten up between his neck and the guy’s arm wrapping around him, to break the hold around his neck. It was a simple move as long as you got your arm in place on time and then used momentum to break the hold. Once he was free, he turned on the guy and started pounding on him. He didn’t have time for finesse—this needed to be a good old-fashioned beat down. He could hear the two guys behind him starting to move again.
