“It was me,” Brittany said.

Olivia cocked an eyebrow as she looked over at me.

“Go on, Brittany,” I said.

“I was the one sending the emails,” Brittany said.

“You were?” Olivia said.

“Yes. And I’m sorry. With the picture, I really thought it was you with another guy, though. I snapped a picture before I could even question it. But when the girl turned around, I saw it wasn’t you at all. She looked a lot like you, but it wasn’t you. And I guess I just held on to the photo. From the right angle, it looked like it could have worked for convincing my brother that you were cheating on him. I figured it would work to break you two up.”

“Why would you want to do that?” Olivia asked.

Brittany’s eyes welled with tears again, and Olivia’s face softened.

“I don’t ever see Brett anymore. Not when the two of you were together in college, and not after you broke up. We don’t do any of the things we used to do anymore, and I miss my brother. Mom and Dad started traveling all the time once I went off to college. I come home more to an empty house than anything else. Brett’s never free to do anything, so it’s just me and my schoolwork. All my friends went off to college. I mean, they’re in other states, for crying out loud! And I’m here in Seattle because the only college that has what I want to do is ten minutes up the damn road. I’ve got no one. Mom and Dad don’t take me traveling with them. Brett’s got his work, and now you. You’ll take up all his free time, and I’ll be left with nothing. Mom has Dad. You have my brother. And I have no one.”

“You’ve got—”

“Don’t even say my other brother. You know he’s always got his nose stuck in a video game. I’m practically raising him since Mom and Dad are traveling so much,” Brittany said.

“Why didn’t you tell me any of this was going on?” I asked.

“Because it wasn’t like I could get you on the phone to talk anyway!” Brittany exclaimed.

To my shock, Olivia approached my sister with her arms opened wide. She wrapped them around Brittany, and I watched as Brittany clung to Olivia. She sobbed onto her shoulder, and I took a step back, allowing them to have their moment.

“I’m so sorry you’ve felt so alone. I know what that feels like. Is there anything I can do?” Olivia asked.

“I’m really sorry. I don’t want anyone to be miserable like me. I’m just tired of being miserable myself,” Brittany said.

“It’s okay. We’ll work through it. We’ll figure out what we can do to repair relationships, okay? What if you and Brett had lunch tomorrow or something?” Olivia asked.

Brittany released her and looked back at me with her puffy eyes.

“I don’t know. I don’t know if he wants to be around me right now,” Brittany said.

“You’re my sister. Of course I do. I’m upset. I’m hurt that I defended you to Olivia when her notions about you were true. I owe her an apology myself,” I said as my eyes connected with hers.

“It’s fine. I don’t want to dwell on the past any longer. It’s exhausting, and I’m tired. I just want to know how we’re going to fix things moving forward,” Olivia said.

“Well, then I think lunch tomorrow is a nice start. Don’t you think, Brittany?” I asked.

She ran at me and threw her arms around me. I held my sister close, feeling her tears falling onto my suit. I had no idea what she was going through or what she was dealing with. I’d have to have a conversation with Mom and Dad, but that would come later. We’d all made big strides, and I wanted us to get comfortable with those strides.

“I gotta get out of here. I have class. But um… call me, yeah? We’ll figure out what to do about lunch,” Brittany said.

“I’ll call you tonight after class. We can talk about how your day went,” I said.

“I’d like that a lot. Thanks.”

I watched Brittany walk out of Olivia’s office and pick up her food. She held the to-go box up to me, and we waved at one another before she left. Olivia closed her office door and locked it before turning back to me.

I quirked an eyebrow as she sauntered toward me, the sway of her hips catching my eye.

“Can we agree to not let anyone come between us again?” she asked.

She slid her hands up my torso before tilting her head back to lock her eyes with mine. I let my hands fall to her hips as my cock jumped to life. She slowly backed me up, all the way to her desk. My ass knocked against the corner as my hands fell to hers, cupping her rounded cheeks and pulling her into me.
