Monroe

“Well, this just sucks, but it’s life, huh?” I tell Hunter on the other end of the phone.

“Yeah, it does. Hopefully, it won’t take longer than a few days.” He literally just came back from a run, and I know not to question it, but a part of me wonders if this is punishment for being with a member’s daughter.

“Okay.” My voice sounds meek, which is ridiculous because this is nothing compared to half of the other shit I’ve been through. It’s also hard though. My dad didn’t have to do very many runs mostly because he was always on call and was a single dad. That didn’t mean he wasn’t called in the middle of the night. Him dragging me from my bed and heading to the club or a knock on the front door didn’t startle me from my sleep much. My tired body would sit on the steps of the stairs, watching my dad work on someone. The blood and gore should have grossed me out, but instead it intrigued me, and by the time I was in high school I was able to help. The hands-on experience only furthered my career until I was out of college, ready to work on people who weren’t adults. Half of the time they were bigger weenies than children.

“Trouble, get that thought out of your mind. This isn’t about us being together. I’d be makin’ the run either way. It’s gonna be hard to get used to, but I promise the end result will be well worth it.” Apparently, Hunter is a mind reader now.

“It’s not easy. I feel like we’ve had one obstacle after another,” I grouse, giving him even more added pressure. I really need to shut up. Who knows how long he’ll be gone or what he’s going to do, and what he doesn’t need is me being a nag.

“That’s life, Monroe, but I promise you there’s a reward for both of us the minute I’m back in town.” Hunter keeps telling me about this surprise, but so far, there’s always been something or other in the way—his work, my work, now the club.

“I know, but patience isn’t my strong suit, you know?” My watch vibrates, alerting me that I only have five minutes until I’m needed to clock in.

“Shit, I have to go. Be safe. Call or text when you can. I’ll take a break if I’m at work.” I guess the silver lining is that I’m working days this week, and if someone needs a shift covered, why the hell not?

“Alright, when you get back home and settled into bed, call me. We’ll have a different kind of fun tonight.” Hunter’s voice turns deep and husky.

“Oh God, I’m going to go to work wet,” I purr, planting my head on the steering wheel.

“Love that, Monroe. You keep thinkin’ about what I’m gonna do to you tonight. That way, once we get on the phone, I’ll light up your world. Wanna hear just how wet you are when you slide your fingers between your thighs.” How he expects me to work now, I have no idea.

“God, Hunter.” I squeeze my legs together.

“Have a good day at work, trouble.” He clicks off the phone, and I’m left to gather my wits, somehow managing to get through my day when all I want to do is wish it away.

That phone call to Monroe earlier backfired on me. There’s nothing like riding for six damn hours, not stopping until we needed gas, with my cock as hard as a rock.

“You okay?” I ask Bennett. The club hasn’t initiated him yet. That’s happening tomorrow, the day we get back, if everything goes as planned.

“Oh yeah, you?” I nod my head, wishing like hell I had a cigarette to calm my shit. I quit those cold turkey the day Monroe was kidnapped. I could have chain smoked until I was a busted chimney. That didn’t happen. Instead, my future was in the palm of a batshit woman, and as soon as Monroe was okay, I was going after her.

“Fuck yes, ready to be back with my woman,” I admit. We have another four hours until we stop for the night, then we’ll meet with the Russians again. As much as I like the cake we’re making, the traveling is gettin’ fuckin’ old.

“Don’t think I’ll ever settle down. See the men dropping like flies, and I’m not sure that’s for me. I like the wind in my hair, the not needing to answer to a woman, and damn sure not the drama that comes with them.” That boy is in for a world of hurt. Of course, he’s still young, dumb, and full of cum. So, shit might change. We’ll just have to wait and see.

“There’s nothin’ better than goin’ to bed each night with your woman beside you, knowin’ she’ll be there through thick and thin. Don’t know it till ya try it.” I finish putting gas in my bike, the custom chopper style bike with the new addition of the seat that’s behind me. Fuck, Monroe’s gonna kill me the first long road trip we take. It’s gonna be bumpy as fuck, but there’s no way I’m trading my bike for somethin’ else.
