“We grew up neighbors, so we were always on the bus together or playing in the summer. It was the three of us, Faith, Sara, and me. Well, in high school, that’s when I started to notice Sara in a different light. She wasn’t my friend next door anymore, but someone I was attracted to. We didn’t actually start going out until our junior year.”

He splays his long fingers across my upper thighs, his index finger sliding dangerously close to the place I’m starting to ache. “What happened?” I ask, my voice all breathless, as I angle my hips to get a little closer.

“We broke up after high school when she didn’t support my decision to enlist. Her mom, Diana, is great, but I think she’s always held out hope that we’d get back together.” He meets my gaze, something heady swirling in those deep green orbs.

“So, only one girl in the truck, huh?” I quip, trying to find the lighter side of the conversation.

His face transforms as he grins. “You’re lucky number two.”

I bark out a laugh. “I’m not sure that’s luck or sad.”

“Oh, I say it’s very lucky,” he replies, scooting me closer until my core is pressed against his stomach, his fingers spread wide against my lower back and ass. “I mean, you’re the hottest girl I’ve ever kissed in my truck.”

My breathing comes out in little pants. “But… you haven’t kissed me… yet.”

“Is that permission?” he whispers, moving his hand across my hip, as if he can’t stop touching me.

“Oh, it’s definitely permission,” I respond, taking his lips with mine.

I might have initiated the kiss, but he takes full control instantly. His mouth owns me, claiming and possessing as if I were completely helpless to fight it. We’ve shared kisses before, but this is… wow. I find myself rocking against his body, seeking out sweet friction, needing to feel closer to him.

We kiss for what feels like forever. My lips are swollen and tender, but I don’t care. I could kiss this man for the rest of my life, and it would probably not be long enough. It would never be enough.

When he finally pulls back, both of us gasping for oxygen, he gives me a soft smile. “Yep, definitely the hottest girl I’ve kissed in my truck.”

Feeling a boldness come over me I wasn’t expecting, I murmur, “You know, we could do more than just kiss.”

Ford lets out a strangled groan, one that sounds like he’s in physical pain. “Temptress.”

I chuckle, rocking my hips again and coming in contact with his very hard, very large erection. “It’s the truck,” I reply with a shrug. “It’s so… sexy.”

His throaty laugh goes straight to my core, making my muscles clench. I never knew I could get this turned on by the sound of a voice, but here I am, ready to throw my reservations—and my panties—out the window. Ford places his hands on both sides of my jaw and lightly kisses my chin. “When I finally get you beneath me, it’s not going to be in a truck, Shayne, and it’s not going to be with time restrictions. I’m going to take my time with you, savoring every inch of your body and memorizing every noise that comes from these sweet lips.” He brushes his across mine, making me mewl in appreciation. “Besides, it’s not going to be with my parents, my sister, my cousin, and my ex’s parents outside. It’s going to be in a big bed when we’re all alone, and no one can hear your cries of pleasure.” He nips at the sensitive skin on my neck, causing goose bumps to pepper my skin.

“And there will be a lot of cries of pleasure, Shayne,” he adds huskily, my body practically orgasming right then and there.

We remain where we are, our bodies entwined as our breathing begins to return to normal. He’s really not going to take this further than a few amazing kisses. A big part of me is saddened, but there’s also another part that’s relieved.

He’s right. Our first time shouldn’t be in a truck. In a barn. Anywhere someone can happen upon us.

Ford wants it to be perfect, where we’re completely alone, and I realize I want that too. As much as I’d love a quick romp in the truck to take the edge off, I appreciate his insistence at making our first time together special.

“We should head back out before they come looking for us,” he whispers, pulling me against his chest and holding me close. It’s a hug. A simple gesture, but it feels like so much more.

“Are you going to help me down? Or does your chivalry only extend to helping me into the truck?”

He smirks a wicked grin. “You think I’d only want my hands on you once?”

Then, he grabs me around the waist and helps me down. As soon as my feet are on the ground, he presses his lips to my forehead and inhales. “You smell amazing. Like fresh air and vanilla. I can’t get enough of it. It’s my favorite scent in the whole world.”
