Dad was handsome in his tux. He looked me up and down and said, “You make me proud, baby girl.” I choked back the tears as memories of when I was a small girl flooded me. When we made it to the front, he smiled. He approved because Ryan had won him over, not with his wealth, but with his wit and obvious love for me.
Ryan took my hand and in front of everyone dipped his head and kissed me. I felt the flames on my cheeks.
“Not yet, son,” the reverend said.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t wait a second longer,” Ryan said. The crowd laughed, but his eyes on mine made me feel cherished. “When you find the woman of your dreams, it’s hard to wait.”
“I love you,” I whispered.
