“Be careful. I might like that.” I wiggle my eyebrows, giving him a soft smile.

“You will. Call Selena while I’m gone. She called earlier this morning, but you were in the shower. You can’t keep her off you much longer, or she’ll be banging the door down.” Yep, this man, he may appear to be this big badass to others, but when he’s with me, this is the side I get.

“I’ll do that. Now shoo. Everyone knows you can’t interfere with girl time. Selena and I have a lot of catching up to do.” I wave my hands at him even though he’s stepping into his boot.

“Be good. I’m locking the door, so no one bothers you.” See? Always worried about me. I watch as he leaves, taking in his broad shoulders, tanned and tattooed arms hanging loosely at his sides. And don’t get me started on his ass. That man’s got a better ass than I do. Not that I get to sink my fingers into it anytime soon. When the doctor said it’d take me four weeks to heal up, it was like a death sentence to my orgasms, one that Maddox reiterated the second he left.

I grab my phone and the remote from the nightstand, ready to call my best friend and relay all the good that’s happened in my life since Maddox blew into town, sweeping me off my feet in the most rugged way possible. But first it’s time to catch up on some reality television. That way, Selena and I can hash out which housewife is causing the drama this week. It’s what we do when we’re away from each other for extended amounts of time, and something tells me that this will be our way of reconnecting for the time being, now that I’m officially three hours away from where she lives. Unless she and Rhett are in Ward on the rare occasion. I’m barely through the first episode when my eyes drift closed, the medicine kicking in and telling me it’s time to sleep. Hopefully, the next time I wake up, Maddox will be here beside me.

The boys and I took care of Mack, me more than the others, but Shovel got his licks in, and Ruger ended him after he was sliced and diced, hanging on a meat hook for damn near twelve hours. I would have liked it to be longer, but then again, my spitfire was up in my room alone, and the need to be near her burned like a wildfire inside me. We put a call into the Cartel hoping like hell we can smooth shit over, but since it’s been silent, none of us are holding our breath. In fact, we’ve pretty much determined we’ll be at war before too long.

“You going back up to Raven?” Shovel asks. We’re both bloody from head to toe.

“Not yet. Gonna take a shower first. She’s not an idiot, but I’m not going to throw it in her face just yet either. Though, I’ll be telling Raven tonight about making her my Ol’ Lady.” I pull out a smoke from the pack of cigarettes, needing it after dealing with the events of the last twenty-four hours.

“I’d say it’s about time for that to happen. She deserves that and more.” Shovel nods his head. He’s three years older than me, coming in at thirty-nine, and I’m sure he’s feeling more than any man wants to admit.

“Without a fuckin’ doubt.” I take another drag of my cigarette, thoughts rolling back to the phone call I had to make to Raven’s best friend, trying to keep shit calm without Selena losing her shit. It got to the point where her man took the phone from her, and I had to relay shit to Rhett.

“Good, go take care of yourself, then Raven. If she’s feeling better, we’ll have a few drinks and introduce her to the rest of the club.” I’ll just bet he wants her up and around, probably so he can watch Raven bust my balls.

“You need to find yourself your own woman instead of wanting to watch Raven give me grief,” I grunt before I take my last inhale of my smoke, holding in the nicotine just a bit longer before blowing it out.

“Not too concerned. When it happens, it happens.” He shrugs his shoulders.

“We got anyone on the inside handling Sara?” I ask, letting him drop the conversation. It’s not like there’s a whole lot of women around our area who are willing to take on one of us. I got fuckin’ lucky.

“Yep, your girl may get a call before the trial. Unless they put her in solitary. I doubt it though.”

“Thanks, man.” Shovel knew my head was all over the place with what happened to Raven. That’s why he took care of Sara for me. Otherwise, I’d have found someone to deal with her. Fuck, I still owe Raven an apology for leaving her wide open like that, but it’ll have to wait until she’s healed more. My woman loves to negotiate in orgasms, and right now that’s off the table.
