“Let’s go,” I urge Parker who is looking around the room with a wide grin on her face.
“This place is like a soap opera.”
“Not even close. There’s way more drama going on around here,” I tell her as I hand her a to-go cup of coffee.
I wave to the guys, feeling a little bad for Gaige who is still standing in the middle of the room with confusion all over his face.
“There’s going to be a new branch?” Parker asks as we climb on the elevator.
Does she really care about what goes on at work? All I can think about is the scrap of lace in my pocket.
“Blackbridge has been getting a lot of flak from male clients who would prefer to work with female employees.”
She scrunches her nose. “That’s sounding shadily like an escort service.”
“I don’t know any of the details.”
“I thought Pam was the only woman who worked here. Are you telling me women that look like that Leighton chick are going to be up here all the time?”
“You’re sounding a little jealous,” I say as I bend to kiss her head.
“I get the distinct feeling that I’m going to go from independent to really clingy very quickly,” she mumbles, and all it does it make my smile grow wider.
“I can get on board with that. What does clingy look like?”
“Constant reassurance, texts, phone calls at odd times. I may pop in unannounced.”
“I love the sound of that, and even though I’m smiling at the prospect of seeing you and talking to you while I’m working, you have to know I only have eyes for you, Parker.”
I tilt her chin up, pressing a kiss to her lips, one that she tries to take a little further, making me wonder if Wren is in his office watching us right now. It sobers me enough to get her into my truck and back to my condo before I strip her naked and make good on all my promises.
It took us so long to get where we are, I know that I’m going to treasure ever second I get with Parker Maxwell.
