The next morning, I woke up and saw that Junior was still sound asleep. I moved off the bed and padded down the hallway. I peeked in Montana’s bedroom. I walked over to her and touched her forehead and was relieved that she wasn’t feverish.

I left her room. That’s when I smelled bacon. I headed into the kitchen where I stood and watched Jacob as he worked the stove. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist, laying my head down on his shoulder.

"Good morning," he said, touching my hand with one of his and flipping the bacon with the other. "Hope you’re hungry."

"Hmm…" I moved over to the counter and rested my bottom on the ledge, loving the sight of his domesticated side. "Smells delicious."

He turned off the bacon and put it on a plate. He broke off a piece and put it to my lips.

"Hmm…tastes delicious, too," I said after one bite.

He leaned in and sucked my lips. "You’re right, that’s pretty delicious."

I smiled and pulled myself from the counter. The waffles had just come up. I helped by getting out a couple plates. "My sleepy heads are still out. They were exhausted," I said.

"There’ll be plenty when they wake up," he replied with a wink. I put a plate in front of him and sat down. He joined me. "This gives us a glimpse into what it will be like when we’re married, doesn’t it?"

"It does," I replied. We never specifically mentioned tying the knot. My marriage to Montie had taken a toll on me. I had prayed for the desire to one day want to marry again. To hear Jacob speak of marriage made me excited about our future. "I want to apologize again, about last night. It was hard to leave your bed and have to deal with Montie."

He shrugged it off. "It just means the next time we’re together I’m going to make up for lost time. It turns me on to know that you put your children come first. I love it when a woman has her priorities in order. That's the way it should be."

I munched on a piece of bacon, realizing how blessed I really was. "It means a lot to hear you say that that."

He leaned across the table and we kissed. I nibbled lightly on his syrup covered lower lip and tediously removed the taste from his mouth. I would never tire of kissing Jacob Turner.

"Mommy!" I heard Montana yell from her bedroom. I laughed, pulling away.

"Hot and cold. This is exactly how it would be if we were married. Are you up for it?"

"I’m always up for a challenge. But I know for sure it's going

to be more hot than cold, believe that," he said, as I walked away from him and left the kitchen.

I hoped he meant that, because I was going to hold him to it.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

DESTINY

All You Gotta Do Is Say Yes

Over the course of the following week, Jacob and I didn’t get to see each other at all. He was busy in Delaware, and my time was occupied with being a mother and PR rep for business, Genesis, which was a new business in town. They were an up and coming retail store that I put my touches on to get them known in the market. When the end of the week came around, I tried to think of things the kids, Jacob and I could do that we hadn’t already done.

"We could go roller skating," I thought aloud and reached for the phone to call him. Before I picked it up, the phone rang. “You must have read my mind," I answered, assuming that it was Jacob.

"What do you mean, I must have read your mind?" my mother said with an attitude.

"Oh, I thought you were someone else. Hey, Mom…how’s it going?"

"It’s going good," she answered with a light chuckle. "I would be doing much better if you and my grandchildren had come visit me over the past few months. I’ve been missing you guys, so I figured I’m going to have to come get my grands, so they can spend the weekend with me."

This was perfect. Junior and Montana could hang with Mom. Jacob and I could pick up where we left off last week. "Mom that’s a great idea. You want to keep them this weekend? I’ve been really busy and that would be helpful," I said.

I didn’t want to go into any details about Jacob, so I led her to believe I would be working. I crossed my fingers and hoped she thought it was a great idea, too.

"Bring them over about six o’clock, tonight."

"Sounds great! They are going to love this, Mom.”
