He reached for my hand. "Hear me out," he said with a pained look on his face.
I threw my hands in the air. "Fine. Talk."
"I did go to her house after we left the airport that day. She tried to convince me to stay with her and that our friendship meant so much more than us, but the only image I could see was you. Your smile interrupted my thoughts in the middle of our conversation. Thoughts of your sexy brown thighs would rush through my mind in the middle of a conference call, while at work. The more I tried to imagine things the way they were before I met you, the more I realized that could never be. I need you in my life. Give me a chance to make it right."
"You really hurt me, Jacob, but I knew what I was getting into when we got in bed the first day I met you. The minute I saw you kissing Justine, I should’ve never allowed you into my bed again. I should’ve moved on. I had no business sleeping with you then and I have no business sleeping with you now."
"But yet, you can’t resist it.”
“It’ll never happen again.”
“Don't say that, when you know it’s not true. You may think us sleeping together on the first day made me look at you differently, but it didn’t. We didn’t know each other, but our kindred energy undeniably pulled us together."
"You’re charming and handsome. What woman wouldn’t have great energy with you? That doesn’t make any of it right, Jacob."
"But that’s just it. What we have is right. I love you, and I’m not the type of man to go around proclaiming my love to every woman I meet. Look, I’m done with Justine. I'm really done. I only have feelings for you."
"You're not worried that she’s going to kill herself?" I asked, rolling my eyes away from him.
"I thought about that, but I have to be true to the way I feel. I have to believe that she’ll be alright without me."
Still unconvinced, I huffed and crossed my arms. "I don't know, Jacob."
"Let me do something nice for you…take you somewhere special. Anywhere you want to go. I’ll give you anything you want, as long as you give me you," he said, kissing his way up my back and to my neck. "I need you tonight…and every night."
“What about in the daytime?” I teased.
“Night and day,” he answered.
"This is too much…"
"Only if you make it," he said, continuing to kiss every inch of my body.
"I didn’t expect you to come here. We can't figure this all out tonight," I said, holding back the tremble in my voice.
"I don't want to figure it all out tonight. I just want you to let me do this to you," he said, pulling me toward him for another earthshaking kiss.
I broke free before things got too heated. "My heart, alone, is not enough to get us through this."
"What if my heart is big enough for both of us?" he said, kissing me again. He looked so genuine I felt vulnerable when he caressed me. "I’m with you one hundred percent. Even if you send me away from here tonight, I’ll be back tomorrow. I’m not going anywhere."
"That's the same thing you told Justine."
"Well, I'm telling you now; and not because you're threatening to kill yourself, but because a part of me will die without you."
"That’s kind of deep,” I said. “Let’s just take this slow and see how things play out, Jacob."
"They’ll play out better than you expect, trust me. I have my ways of showing you," he said, lying down beside me.
I thought for a second. "So did you use “your ways” to find out where I live?"
"Like I said, I have my ways," he said. His neatly shaven beard had grown so much since the last time I saw him.
"Humph," I said. “You better not be having me followed.”
"Maybe,” he joked and I hit his arm. “Nah, I sweet-talked Susie Alexander into giving me your address. You know she has a thing for me, so it was kind of easy," he said, running his hand across his beard.
"You probably did more than sweet talking," I said, regretting rolling my eyes, crossing my arms and saying the words as soon as I'd said them. Unwanted thoughts roamed through my mind. I could imagine him having sex with Susie on the same desk I signed her contract on.
