“Not getting cold feet, are you?” he says. “You know I’ll tear your head off if you bolt on my daughter.”
I laugh because even just the thought of me leaving Savanna is absurd. “You wish, old man.”
“I don’t, actually. I’m glad you’re going to be part of this family. You’re the only man I know who I can always trust to take care of her.”
“I can’t imagine my life without her,” I tell him.
He smiles and pats me on the back. “Looks like it’s about that time. The car’s waiting downstairs. Are you ready?”
“More ready than I’ve ever been.”
Stan leaves and I take one last look in the mirror to make sure everything is right. I can’t help but think about how perfect everything in my life is right now. Not only am I marrying my dream girl, but my firm is thriving. The money Mr. Sapline brought in with him has changed everything. He never found out about the fake marriage and now there will never be any reason to tell him. Soon I will buy him out and this company will belong solely to Savanna and me. I plan to bring in her parents and make it a family run law firm.
I wait at the end of the aisle next to the preacher and my groomsmen. Across from us is her row of bride’s maids. My hands are shaking. I have no idea why I’m so nervous and emotional. She suddenly appears at the end of the long carpet.
Savanna and her mom planned the whole wedding. I didn’t take any part of it. She had her dream wedding in mind and who was I to take that from her? When she said she wanted it to take place in the forest, I was a little surprised. Especially since her mom went along with it. Her parents are traditionalists. I thought we would be in a church. I didn’t see her vision for it all at first, but now I do. What they’ve done with the place is truly magnificent. It looks like something out of a fairytale with all the lights and the flowers cascading down from the trees. It’s just so Savanna.
The only thing traditional about it is the white dress. She’s stunning, a goddess, with her hair up in an ethereal twist with little sparkling jewels woven through her blonde locks. She walks down the aisle with her dad and I feel my throat tightening as my eyes grow teary. Not enough to cry, but enough to where I have to swallow hard to keep it back.
The rest of the ceremony is perfect. Everything is perfect. We go to the reception all to eat. The food is good, the music is good and we dance and laugh all night with the people we care about most. We’re a family now and I can’t help the smile that lights up my face whenever I think about that.
After the reception, we say goodbye to our loved ones. They line up and blow bubbles and throw bird seed instead of throwing rice—nothing traditional for Savanna, after all. They wave at us as we drive away with cans rattling behind our car. We head straight back to the hotel room. I can’t wait to fuck her in that dress.
I carry her to our room, and kick the door shut. She laughs as I toss her on the bed and rush to get out of my clothes. She shimmies out of her under garments.
“Keep the dress on,” I say when she starts to reach back to take it off.
I step up to her, naked and hard. She’s in a nest of fabric in her wedding gown. I spread her legs to reveal her nakedness underneath.
She reaches up and pulls me down to her in a kiss. Our lips meet and her tongue slips into my mouth, warm and wet and tasting like cake and champagne. I lay my body against hers, skin to skin, but I don’t put it in her yet even though I can feel how wet and warm she is. She wants it and keeps pressing her hips against me, rolling them around to try to slip it in. I smile against our kiss at how eager she is. I am too, but I’m more patient. They say a happy wife is a happy life and that’s exactly when I plan to make happen, but in the bedroom, I’m in charge.
Her nails slide gently across my back, tickling me. I would kiss her all night if I could but neither of us have the willpower for that. Eventually I’ll lose my battle to hold back.
I back away, parting. She lets out a little sad sound. But when she sees the smile on my face and the direction my head is going, she starts to get excited.
