But Selena couldn’t seem to get over the idea that he needed to bite her. It seemed like something she’d seen or heard once in a dream—a dream long forgotten but surfacing now, in the heat of the moment.

“Do it!” she insisted. “Valen, please—I want you to.”

“Gods, little one, you shouldn’t tempt me,” he groaned. “The Blood Hunger grows with lust and the Goddess knows how I lust for you now!”

“Please?” Selena begged softly. “Please, Valen?”

He shook his head but his fangs were long and sharp—ready to bite.

“Stop me when it hurts,” he growled. “I’ll prove to you this is a bad idea.”

Leaning down, he fastened his mouth to her open pussy again and she felt his tongue working hungrily against her swollen clit.

There was a sharp moment of pain as his fangs sank into her tender flesh…and then Selena was flooded with pleasure so incredible she hadn’t even known anything like it existed before.

This second orgasm—if it could even be called that—made her first one seem like nothing. It was like comparing a firecracker to an erupting volcano—the pleasure was that intense.

“Valen!” she gasped. “Master! Oh God…Oh God!”

Every muscle in her body seemed to seize and tighten at once. Her back arched, her toes curled, and her fingers tightened in the big Kindred’s hair in what had to be a painful grip. Valen didn’t let up, however—he kept drawing from her, taking what he needed while he gave Selena the most intense orgasm of her life.

Too good! she thought wildly, as the intense pleasure went on and on. My God, it’s too good! I’m going to faint—I can’t take it anymore…

It was the last thought she had before everything went black and she knew no more.

Valen stopped drawing from the little Elite when she suddenly went limp. He looked up at her anxiously as her hands fell away from his head and her body abruptly relaxed.

I hurt her too much, he thought, a flash of guilt rushing through him. I should have stopped sooner. Gods, why did I do it? I knew the pain would be too much. Why can’t I stop hurting her? Maybe I am a fucking Broken One, after all!

It’s because of the Blood Hunger, whispered a harsh little voice in his head. You hurt her—just as you hurt Ka’leesa! Don’t you ever learn? This is why you need to keep your vow—because you’re no damn good! Every time you get close to a female, you hurt her. You knew damn good and well that there was next to no chance she would enjoy your bite in such a sensitive area—not unless she was your fated mate and the odds on that are a million to one! But you bit her anyway, to slake your thirst. You let the Blood Hunger control you and look what happened! Are you happy now? Are you?

No, he most certainly was not. Guilt consumed him. Gods, what was wrong with him? Why did he keep hurting her?

“Selena?” he asked sharply, patting her cheeks. “Selena, wake up, little one! Selena, are you all right?”

To his immense relief, her eyelids fluttered at last. Good—at least he hadn’t killed her! For a moment he’d been afraid he had taken too much blood. But she had only fainted.

“Valen?” she whispered weakly. “Master? I…I don’t understand. What happened?”

“What happened is that I hurt you again,” he said shortly. “And this time, I have no excuse.”

“But—” Selena shook her head.

She looked weak and dizzy—too dizzy to stand. Though Valen didn’t like to trust himself too near her after what he had done, he scooped her up off the bed and carried her quickly to her own room.

“Valen,” she begged softly, when he laid her on the bed. “Master…don’t go. Please.”

“I have to,” Valen said shortly. “I can’t trust myself around you—can’t trust myself not to hurt you.”

“But you didn’t—”

“I did!” he cut her off sharply. Gods, to think she was still willing to forgive him—still trying to make excuses for him—even after everything he’d put her through that night! He didn’t deserve her, no matter how much he might want her.

Even though you dreamed of her, whispered a little voice in his head. With a stab of agony, Valen realized it was true. He had dreamed of the curvy little Elite. He didn’t often remember his dreams, but he remembered now. Because the way she was lying on the bed, looking at him with dazed uncertainty on her lovely face, brought back the elusive images from his nights of broken sleep when the Blood Hunger tormented him. Images that came flooding back now, to let him know they had been Dream Sharing long before he met her. Maybe that was why he’d felt so drawn to her, right from the start…

Maybe that’s why you can’t stop hurting her, whispered that harsh, accusing voice in his head. You think you’re meant to have her? Think again, Valen. Remember your vow! You took it because of what happened with Ka’leesa. Remember how she cried and begged and shrank away from you? Remember how you bit her and took her blood anyway?
