“You guys sneaking dessert early?” Millie asks as she strolls into the kitchen. It’s Sunday and our week to host family dinner. We rotate between our house, Andrea’s and Millie’s each week. Nina gets all the holidays out at the Roberts Estate.

“Never,” I fib. Abby smacks her gums together, giving me away.

“If I were you I’d go check on your husband. He’s about to choke two boys on the front porch.” I stand there for a moment, having no idea what she’s talking about until I hear raised voices coming from that direction. I make my way toward them to see what Jax is all bent out of shape about.

“Don’t you two little shits give me any excuses as to why you’re always hanging around here. I know exactly what you’re looking for and it’s not just my wife’s baked goods. Keep your eyes to yourself or else,” Jax shouts at Paul and Peter, our teenage neighbors from next door. I think they’re both in college now. Or maybe one is and one is about to graduate high school.

It doesn’t matter. I fight a giggle because my husband is being absolutely ridiculous. It is all silly but I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit to enjoying that my husband gets jealous thinking everyone wants me. It makes me feel sexy.

I better go and save them from the wrath of my husband. Jax has already told them to knock their shit off. He says they are making up reasons to come over here. That people don’t really ask their neighbors for a cup of sugar, randomly clean their pools to be nice or shovel their driveways.

I open the front door leading out to the porch, letting it slam to announce my presence. All three of them turn to look my way, their mouths hanging open. I look down and realize I’m still wearing my cute little baking apron that I’d slipped on over my swimsuit. Jax makes a low noise from deep in his chest, making my nipples go tight.

He makes a beeline toward me and tucks me behind him so the boys can’t see me. This only causes me to laugh harder. I peek out from behind him to wave to Peter and Paul. They glance from me to my husband.

“Don’t even fucking wave at her. I’ll break your fingers.” I don’t know how he keeps his voice so calm when he issues a threat but he does. Both boys turn, running off.

“Those little fuckers.”

“Are good—“ My words trail off as Jax turns and I see his face. “Are fuckers,” I correct.

Jax’s lips fight a smirk. “Excuse me, miss, but do you happen to have a cup of sugar I can borrow?” It takes me a moment to realize what my husband is up to but as soon as I do my body heats with desire. I can play nice neighbor. I’ll give him more than a cup of sugar.

“I may have some inside. I’ll have to go and check to see if there’s any left.” I turn to open the door. “You’re more than welcome to come in and have some of my cookies and milk while I look.” I cock my hip so he gets a look at my bikini bottoms underneath my apron as I peek over my shoulder at him.

“I already have your cookie.” He grunts as he lifts me up off my feet, throwing me over his shoulder. His hand comes down on my ass with a smack as he goes back into the house.

“I’ve got them,” I hear Millie say, talking about the kids. I can’t see her with my hair in my face as I hang over my husband’s shoulder. I smile as he carries me up the stairs easily before tossing me onto the bed.

“A bikini and an apron? Are you trying to kill me?” he asks as he pulls at his own clothes. I sit up on my elbows and watch him. I’d forgotten my swimsuit coverup when I went downstairs and needed to cook anyway. I don’t see the big deal. I guess I am wrong because my husband is finding it sexy. Not sure that counts for much. I could be wearing a paper bag and he would find it sexy.

“You have twenty minutes,” I tell him. I know that’s about when everyone else will be getting here. I know it’s the wrong thing to say the second the words leave my lips.
