"That good, baby?” I ask her, squeezing her ass.
She nods sleepily. "It feels so good," she says. "I was having the best dream."
"Yeah? What was it like? Were you back in the real world?"
She shakes her head. "No, that's not what I dream about. Not anymore. I was imagining you and me back at that waterfall," she says as she begins to grind her hips in a nice circle, swiveling against me in a way that makes me ready, eager.
"What were we doing at the waterfall?" I ask her.
She smiles down at me. "You were eating me out, and making me come so hard. I was so wet," she whimpers. "Wet like I am right now.”
“I love it when your pussy drips,” I tell her.
“Remember how shy I was back then?"
"I wouldn't say shy. Innocent, sure."
She laughs. "Yeah, that's probably right. I guess I've never been exactly shy, have I?"
I shake my head. "No, baby. You laid it all out there."
"Are you nervous?" she asks.
"That I'm going to come too fast? Yeah, a little bit."
She laughs again. "No," she says. "Stone, are you nervous about being a dad?"
I shake my head. "No. I want to be a good father."
She slows her movements, lacing her fingers with mine. We try to kiss, but it's tricky. That baby is ready to pop. "I love you," she says. "I know I say it all the time, but..."
"I know, baby," I tell her. "I love you too."
She exhales then, coming against me hard, and I fill her up with the seed that's begging to be released. She whimpers in pleasure as she gets off, and I thrust up deep inside her, hitting her where she needs me to be.
"Oh god," she begins to moan. "I think..." She exhales. Her shoulders begin to shake. "Stone, can your water break when you're having an orgasm?"
I chuckle. "Baby, I was trained as a paramedic. I don't know anything about pregnancy orgasms."
She smiles. "Oh my god. I shouldn't have learned how to make smoothies. I should have been going to pre-med."
"Nah," I tell her, "we've got this. We're good." She rolls off of me and she's right, my thighs are soaked. So is our bed. "It's okay," tell her.
"Did I ruin it?"
"No, honey, you didn't ruin anything. You sit here. I'm going to get the fire going stronger and I'm going to lay out the leaves we collected. It's okay. We got this." She nods, biting down on her lower lip. "Are you scared?" I ask her.
"A little," she says. "I've never had a baby before."
I laugh. "Sky, this is all brand-new territory. Hell, this is the first baby ever born here, you know that?"
"The first human baby, at least," she laughs. "This is so insane."
"Yeah," I tell her. "It kind of is. I promise you this, this delivery will go down in history."
Six hours later, Skylar gives birth to a little boy. We can't weigh him, but we can guess. He's definitely more than seven pounds. He's got a thick head of hair and she jokingly calls him a Neanderthal.
She holds our baby boy to her chest as I press a cloth between her legs, washing her up gently. I'm thankful the labor went without any trouble. Our son was a little irritated at the proposition of being born, but he came around. Now, mom and baby are both crying, looking at each other, knowing that this is a miracle.
I wring out the cloth in the basin of warm water and wash my wife again. Then I drape the sleeping bag over her body, trying to make her comfortable. She's worked hard at making our cave a home the last nine months, weaving a rug and saving animal fat to make little candles. I made our baby a little bassinet, a cradle where she can keep an eye on him.
"You did so good," I tell her, kneeling on the floor, running a hand over her forehead. "You okay?"
She nods. "Look at him, Stone. He's perfect."
“What should we name him?” I ask her.
She grins. “How about Bramble?”
“Why Bramble?” I ask, thinking I like the sound of it.
Her eyes sparkle. “Well, that way we can call him Bam-Bam. Wasn’t that Betty’s son?”
I chuckle. “God, I love you.” I lean down to kiss her lips. "You are so strong. And I'm so proud of you."
She smiles, her eyes lit up not with fire but with love. "I’m the luckiest cave-mama to ever live.”
Epilogue 2
Rock
I was recruited for this mission because I knew a thing or two about getting a job done.
I was trained by the best – Sergeant Langham – and I’m fucking grateful to have learned how to navigate difficult terrain from a man like him. I saved his life once, and he told me he’d give me anything I wanted in return.
