“You know I am, baby. I can’t wait.” I scoop her up and carry her toward my wife, my love, Sierra holding out the birthday cake with two candles on it. She sets it on the table and no sooner sets it down than Ellie jumps up into her arms. Sierra slides her around to her hip. “Make a wish, baby girl.”
Ellie squeals and leans down to blow out her candles. I meet my wife’s eyes over our daughter’s head and I can already see the desire in her eyes. “Tonight,” I mouth to her.
And she shakes her head at me and leans in for a kiss.
