‘Do you, boo, but please spare me the details,” Shaniqua said with a laugh.

I knew she would say that because at the end of the day, this was her brother that we were talking about. But best believe it, come tomorrow morning I was giving her all of the details, making sure to leave nothing out.

After I had gotten my nails and toes done and my hair, we were on the way to Jah and Shaniqua’s mother house. Prom started at seven and it was going on five o’clock. Shaniqua specialized in makeup, so she would be doing my make up for me. I hadn’t seen Jah all day, but I knew that he was going to be so handsome tonight, and I couldn’t wait to see him in his tux. All I had ever seen Jah in were jeans, sweats, or shorts, and I couldn’t wait to see him dressed up.

We got to the house, where Shaniqua pulled my curls up into pins so that I could take a shower. I didn’t need the weave or anything like that because my hair was naturally long but I did switch things up a little bit though. I was born with this jet black, silk hair that I had inherited from my mother. So, when Shaniqua had taken me to the Dominicans today to do my hair, I had them dye my hair this honey brown color, with blonde highlights that went perfect against my caramel skin. They had done my hair in these big bouncy curls and I couldn’t stay my ass out of the mirror. I kept shaking my hair and Shaniqua fussed that I wasn’t going to have any curls left.

“Here, my brother left this bag for you,” Shaniqua said, handing me over a big gift bag that I took into the bathroom with me.

I closed the door behind me, and Jah had put bought me all type of toiletries, along with a pink thong from Victoria secret and a robe to put on after my shower. I swear Jah though that he was so damn smooth. After taking my shower, being extra careful not to wet my hair, I stepped out, dried myself off and slid on the thong and silk robe that Jah had got for me. After making sure that the bathroom was like it was when I came here, I walked out with my clothes that I had just took off in my hand. I already had come over with a duffle bag, filled with things that I knew I was going to need, so I went and put the clothes in the bag.

I walked back into Shaniqua’s room and she had all of her makeup items laid on top of the dresser, as her mom sat on the bed. I went and sat down in the chair that she had sat out and allowed her to work her magic. When she finished, she turned me around, having me face the mirror, and swear that I looked like a totally different person. My eyes got watery at the person that was staring me back in the mirror. She had undone the pins in my hair, putting my hair in a side bang wrap and the curls fell down making me look like a Barbie or something.

“Antonia, you better not! I just spent all this time on your face,” Shaniqua said because she knew that I was about to start crying. She came over to me and held a tissue up under my eyes so that no tears would fall from my eyes.

“I’m sorry, it’s just I never in my life felt this beautiful,” I said, as Shaniqua stood in front of me, still with the tissue up under my eyes.

“You always been beautiful. I told my brother that the first time I saw you,” Shaniqua told me and her mother agreed.

I looked at the time on the clock, noticing that it was seven on the dot. I knew that Jah and I were going to be late, but damn.

His mother went and took the dress out of the bag and laid it out on the bed. She left my shoes next to it and her and Shaniqua left, giving me some privacy. I went over to the bed, stepping out of the robe I had on and put lotion all over my body that Jah had in the bag for me. I sprayed some dove dry spray antiperspirant up under my arms and lifted the dress off the bed. Unzipping the zipper on the side of the dress, I stepped into it and it fit my body like a glove. I then zipped it back up and stepped into the heels. I walked back over to the mirror and smiled at myself again. It took me going to my prom for me to realize just how beautiful that I was. I went over to the duffle bag and pulled the 5x7 picture that I had printed of my father and I at Walgreens a few months back. That picture that I was able to find of us online, I went and got it printed and I took this picture with me everywhere that I went. I kissed the picture a few times, and then there was a knock on the door.

“Antonia, are you ready? Jah is here,” Jah’s mom said.

I hurriedly put the photo back into my duffle bag. I made sure that I had everything that I needed in my clutch and then I opened the bedroom door.

Almost immediately, my eyes fell on Jah, and he was wearing the hell out of that that all white, three-piece tux. His dreads were so neat, going back in these fie big braids, that held a rubber band at the end of it.

“God damnnnn, baby,” Jah said, once I had come down the stairs. I smiled because that only meant that he was satisfied with what he saw. “Spin around for me one time,” Jah said, placing his hands on my waist.

I moved away from him and did a complete 360, with him barking the whole time.

“Okay, Jahiem Carter, stop with all that craziness,” his mom said, laughing.

“I’m sorry, ma, but damn. Antonia, you look so beautiful baby, I just can’t help it,” he said and then he reached behind him, on the table and put a corsage on my right wrist. I kissed his lips and thanked him for it

His mother and Shaniqua told me how beautiful I looked and I swear that we t

ook over one thousand damn pictures. We took some inside the house and outside. Finally, after all of the pictures, we were in Jah’s car and on the way to the prom.

“I’m spending the night with you tonight,” I told Jah once he had pulled away.

“Just make sure you ready. I can’t wait to get you up out of that dress” he told me, causing me to laugh.

The whole way to the prom, my mind was in overdrive. This was a big day for me. I was wondering how things would go when I saw Tacarra because I’m pretty sure that she was going to be there. She had been talking about this day since we were freshman. I shrugged those thoughts out of my head, while Jah continued to drive. The whole time, his hand rested on my thigh. About forty-five minutes later, we pulled up to the Broward county convention center.

Jah parked the car and got out, came around and opened my door for me. We were running hella late, so nobody was outside. We made it inside and took the escalator up to the second floor. After showing our prom tickets and having he teachers verify that our names were on the list, they let us through the rope. Students were standing out in the middle taking pictures together with their friends and stuff.

“They got a photo booth over there. Let’s go take a few pictures,” Jah said and we walked over. After telling the man which packet he wanted, we went and stood in front of the backdrop.

“Let’s get one with you sitting in the chair and the beautiful lady on your lap,” the camera man said.

Jah sat down in the chair and I sat on his right leg. As we were taking pictures, I could just feel eyes on me and I looked up and Tacarra and her friends were staring at Jah and I with jealous looks on their faces. After taking a few more pictures, Jah paid for them and then we were given a tracking number for when the pictures will be delivered.

“If they hated you before, they definitely hate your ass now,” Jah said, referring to Tacarra and her friends.

We walked into the room, and I must admit that it was decorated beautifully. The theme for the prom was a Vegas cabaret, but you didn’t have to follow it if you didn’t want to. As we walked to find us a table, the DJ was playing Bobby Shmurda Hot Nigga. We went and found us a spot at a round table and Jah was being the perfect gentleman Opening up doors for me, pulling out seats, the whole nine. I guess he wanted some pussy as bad I wanted to get some of his dick.
