Breesha must have noticed the pissed off look on my face, because she stopped.
“I don’t really want to go into detail over the phone but get her,” she said, and hung up the phone.
“Baby what happened?” Breesha asked me, getting down from the dresser.
“Man, if something happened to my daughter, I swear to fuckin God I’m going to jail tonight!” I said, punching a whole in the wall. A nigga didn’t even know what was going on, but I was already thinking the worst. I could hear it in my cousin’s voice that some fucked up shit had happened, and she was too scared to tell me because she knew how I was about my damn daughter.
“Tae what happened? Tell me!” she cried. Breesha loved Bria like a daughter, so my girl was just as pissed as I was right about now.
“Breesha get dressed, I’ll meet you in the car,” I said, and walked out the room.
Thirty minutes later, we were pulling up to the emergency room at Memorial hospital. I ran to the front desk, not even giving these bitches a chance to speak to me.
“I’m here to see my daughter Bria Harris, and my baby mama Sharice Mack,” I said.
“Okay, yes, your daughter is on the third floor in room 311, while Ms. Mack is in ICU on the 2nd floor, room 212,” she said.
We handed her our IDs, and she gave us our badges while we headed to see my daughter first. The whole way up there, my heart was pounding so rapidly that I thought that shit would eventually fly the fuck out my chest. I had already called ma dukes on the way over, so I’m pretty sure she was here already as well. We got off the elevator and hit a corner, and then we went into Bria’s room. My cousin April was sitting on the bed with her, while my mom sat in the chair next to Bria, softly crying. I knew some shit had to be going on because I promise, never in my life have I ever witnessed my mother cry. This was the strongest woman that I knew, so I knew some fucked up shit had to take place for my mom to be shedding tears.
“Hi Daddy,” my daughter said weakly. I could look into my daughter’s eyes and tell that something happened. This wasn’t the happy little girl that I was so used to seeing. Whenever my daughter saw me, I was able to see that sparkle in her eyes. This time, I got sadness. She looked as if she was suffering from something, and I wanted to know what the hell it was that had my daughter like this.
“Hey Breesha,” she called out too.
We both walked over to her and gave her a hug. Breesha held onto Bria a little tighter, and then I finally said something. I was ready to get to the bottom of this shit.
“April, what the fuck is going on?” I asked her. April looked from m, to Breesha, to Bria. Whatever she was about to tell me, it didn’t look like it would be good.
“Let’s go into the hallway,” she said.
I kissed my daughter and grabbed Breesha’s hand as we stepped in the hallway, followed by my mother.
“Alright what’s up?” I asked, once we were out of the room.
“Dontae, Bria was raped!” April said.
“Raped! What the fuck! By who?” I asked, with my voice cracking.
“She said it was Sharice’s boyfriend, Fred,” April told me.
“That lying bitch! That hoe sat up on the phone with me and damn near begged me to get Bria because she said she was done with that nigga. I swear to God, both of them are fuckin dead,” I hissed, and a lone tear dropped from my eye. I looked over at Breesha and noticed she had a face full of tears as well. That was to be expected, because she and Bria were as thick as thieves. An outside person looking in would really think that they were really mother and daughter, judging by how tight their bond was. A nigga like me never shed tears, but I swear right now, I was shedding tears for my little one in there. I felt like this shit was kind of my fault, because Bria had begged me not to take her over to Sharice’s house. I just didn’t want to be that nigga that kept his baby mama from seeing her child.
“So where do we go from here?” Breesha asked April, wiping her eyes.
“Bria’s insides were bruised pretty badly. They have her heavily sedated right now, which is why she looked so weak when you just came in. I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but there is a very strong possibility that Bria may not be able to have kids in the future,” April informed me, and that shit was like a punch in the damn face.
I banged my fist constantly into the wall, causing blood to pour from my knuckles. I was so furious right now that I didn’t even feel that shit.
“Why!” I screamed. My daughter man! That’s my fuckin world right there! I wasn’t even there to protect her. What type of father was I? I see shit like this on the news all the fuckin time, but I would have never expected this shit to happen to my baby. I know Bria probably fuckin hates my ass right now.
“The person who did this to her was a heartless bastard. Based on the test that we ran, this shit was just down right cruel. He forced his way inside of her, and from the scarring and all the blood that was lost, it will be labeled a gruesome rape,” April said, and a tear dropped from her eye as well.
I walked away from them and went into the room with my daughter. She was sleeping so peacefully, and when I got a closer look at her, I could see the bruises that were on her neck. I couldn’t stop the tears from falling from my eyes. I fuckin failed at being a father! A father’s number one job on this Earth was to protect his daughter from all harm, hurt, and danger. I felt like a fuckin failure right now. I couldn’t believe this shit. I should have killed that bitch ass nigga when he punched my daughter in her back awhile back. This was so much for my daughter to have to endure and only five years old. I couldn’t understand what a fuckin grown ass man would want with my little girl. What could she possibly be able to give him? I swear, you got to be a nasty motha fucka to do some coward shit like this.
Five minutes later, Breesha came back in the room with her eyes puffy. She walked over to me and stood in front of me; I wrapped my arms around her waist as we cried together.
“It’s going to be okay baby, we gonna get through this,” she said to me.
A few minutes went by and Breesha finally let go of me, and I stepped into the hall to just calm myself down. I noticed that my mother was still standing in the hallway too.
