I pulled at the bodice that covered my breasts, my nipples so hard they poked through the material. There was no hiding them, no trying to cover up the fact that I was insanely aroused.

I was soaked between my thighs, my pussy tingling, feeling even more sensitive because of the lack of hair covering my lips.

Oh gods, I thought as I breathed out. The very thought of Fen seeing my bare flesh down there had a wave of heat and tingles racing over me.

I stared at the table in our room, the one that had been covered in dishes of food just this morning. Now it was covered with hearty foods for the last meal of the evening. There were decadent-looking desserts as well, and even fresh fruits.

But as delicious as it all looked, I wasn’t hungry, not in the slightest. My body was thrumming, my nervousness nearly having me vibrating with anticipation.

Every part of me was humming for Fen to walk through the bedroom doors and finish what we’d started in the corridor.

And when I saw said door being pushed open, everything inside me stilled. My heart stopped. My breath froze in my lungs. And my muscles contracted. But when I saw it was Lila bringing in a big jug of mead, I exhaled slowly from my disappointment.

He said he’d eat the last meal with me, told me how much he looked forward to it as he murmured in between kisses after the afternoon meal. And I was confused—even if only slightly—that I allowed myself to be this disappointed over his absence.

But as I stared at the table, knowing the food was getting cold, I wondered if he was coming at all. Lila turned and headed to the door. I took a step toward her, unsure what to say, unsure if she even had any answers.

But I couldn’t stop myself from asking, “Do you know where Fen is?”

She stopped and turned around, this startled look on her face. I didn’t understand why she looked almost shocked, but then I realized I’d abbreviated his name. It was probably far too intimate for her to think was appropriate.

No doubt she was probably a little bit stunned that I took such liberties when I’d just arrived at the castle. And the truth was, I was a little surprised at myself for that reason too, because I felt very comfortable saying it.

I cleared my throat. “King Fenrir. Do you know where he’s at? We were supposed to eat our last meal together.” I had my hands clasped behind me, my fingers twined together tightly, almost painfully.

“I’m sorry, Queen Prima.”

I was a little startled that she addressed me as such, even if the title was accurate now. It just felt… weird.

“I am not privy to the king’s schedule. But I assure you, if he said he would be here, he will do everything in his power to ensure he is.” The small smile she gave me was almost secretive, and I felt myself blush, wondering if maybe she’d seen us in the hallway and that’s why she said it the way she did.

I swallowed as I nodded, my face feeling as if it were on fire. The urge to lift my hands and cover my cheeks was strong, but I held onto my strength, not wanting to draw even more attention to myself.

She gave a proper bow and then left the chamber, and I stood there, unable to move as I was locked in alone, my thoughts confused, my body heated.

I took my seat at the table and sat there, not hungry, but I’d of course eat when he came. I just enjoyed his company, I realized. I was staring into one of the flames of the candle that sat in the center of the table, lost in thought, when I heard the door open once more. My spine went straight, and I looked over my shoulder, my belly getting a little flutter at the sight of Fen walking in. I noticed how he looked around the room as if searching for me. And when his gaze landed on mine, I instantly saw relief and… happiness cross his face.

He shut the door slowly, quietly, and then I heard the latch slide into place. My throat tightened. My mouth dried. My pussy became even wetter at what that sound implied.

“Prima,” he breathed in this utterly fascinated tone, and I felt even more butterflies moving in my belly. “I apologize for running late.” He started taking off his weapons as he moved toward the large cabinet that was across from the bed, his focus never leaving me.

I nodded, unsure of what to say, my focus on him, transfixed at the fluid movements of Fen removing his weapons. When he was only in a tunic and his leathers, he came back over to me. I couldn’t breathe as we just stared at each other. I had my head tilted back so I could look into his beautifully harsh face. The flickering firelight seemed to make him look even more severe in his intensity. But I liked that he wasn’t perfectly sculpted—a sign that would indicate he lived an easy life.
