I can tell she’s waiting for a reaction from me and I give her one. It gets me a small smile. She feeds me another bite before going back to feeding herself. I watch her. I couldn't pull my eyes away even if she demanded it.

It is clear that the small amount of control I had when I left her apartment yesterday is gone. I’ve broken into her place. I guess it’s not breaking in if you have a key. A key that you got in the early morning hours as you bought a building for three times what it was worth, but it was still a key and that’s all that matters. I would have paid more for that key if it got me to Amelia.

“Are you feeling better?” I ask. I keep waiting for her to ask how I got in here. She seems both pissed about it and okay with it. It’s hard to get a read on her mood. She isn't screaming for me to leave but she isn’t exactly opening her arms to welcome me either. She’s eating the food I brought with me and leaned into me when I was caring for her in the bathroom, so that must mean something. I’ll take whatever time she’ll give me at this point.

“Yeah. I’m fine.” She shrugs it off.

“I can take you to the doctor,” I offer.

“No, I’m fine,” she rushes to say. “Really there is no need.”

“I can have one come here if you don’t feel up to going out.”

“I have work.” She pushes back from her chair, ending any talk about a doctor. Work. Yes, I knew that was coming. I don't want her to go anywhere. I could buy the place she works in but that would probably make her mad. Maybe I could shut it down? Then she’d likely freak out thinking she was out of a job.

“Call in.” I stand. I grab her, pulling her into me. “Spend the day with me.”

“We can have a quickie before I go to work. No need for all this.” She waves her hand at the food. I let her go. “I’m game. I don’t need all the wooing. It's nice but unnecessary. I’m a sure thing.”

“Amelia.” I step back from her. That isn’t what I am here for. Oh, I’ll take her, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t only want that one aspect of her. I want it all with her. The coldness she threw up with her words drops away. A vulnerable look flashes across her face.

“I’ll take you to bed if you want. Give you your quickie,” I tell her. I motion to the food on the table. “This is necessary. You’re my woman. I take care of you. I’d rather spend the day with you but if all you’ll give me is a few minutes of your time, I'm going to take them like the starving man that I am for any of your attention.”

Her mouth opens then closes. I clear the space I put between us, pulling her back into my arms. “Go tell your boss you’re not going to work.” I lean down and kiss her. I make it quick before I end up pinning her to the wall. I release her, turning her toward the bedroom and giving her ass a small smack. She jumps, darting off toward her room. I believe she’s at a loss for words. I’m sure they will come back to her in a moment. That smart mouth of hers will rear its head again. I love that about her.

“I’ll call in but not because you told me to. I was going to do it anyway,” she shouts from her bedroom. There it is. I knew she’d have some sort of sarcastic retort. I smile, enjoying the fire that's back inside of her more than the sad look that crossed her face earlier. She has no idea but in that moment she showed me that she has some deep-seated abandonment issues. Again, I wonder if leaving yesterday was the best idea.

I won’t make that mistake again. Plus, I know that I have to tread lightly for a while because she still needs a moment to get her footing. Her issues with abandonment aren’t going to go away overnight and I know the only way to help her through it is to prove that I’m not going anywhere. She may try to push me away but I won't let her.

Soon enough she’ll realize that I’m her forever and I’m willing to wait as long as that takes. Her mouth may say differently at times but her eyes tell me the truth. She wants to be loved and I’m going to be the man that gives her that for the rest of our lives.

I look around her place. It’s clean but for some reason it doesn't feel like her style. Everything is a little too perfect. None of the wild sprite that I sense coming from her is reflected in here. It looks more like an apartment that a regular person would live in. Amelia has that special spark in her. She’s full of life and attitude. This home does not reflect that in the least. She is no ordinary woman and that's what this place is.
