“And I was just here freaking out. I thought about looking for you,” Neil began.

I hugged my bestie. “It’s best that you didn’t. We got caught and someone killed Lee. Would you like to guess who? And also, I told you so.”

Danny had his cell out but he looked my way. “Who? How?”

“It was Alexander freaking Sharpe.” Yes, there was a whole lot of righteousness in my tone.

“Shit.” Danny pulled me in close, keeping an arm around Lee. “You both are still here.”

“Zoey.” Devinshea jogged around the corner. “I was about to walk to Ether to find you. Lee. Oh, thank the goddess.”

Dev wrapped his arms around us and Neil worked his way in because he did not like being left out of any kind of physical affection.

I sighed in relief because I was with them again, and we were all okay for now.

“You’ll have to tell us everything on our way home,” Dev whispered. “And Lee will have to change. Dare I ask who he killed?”

“Oh, like a bunch of witches, but the blood is all mine. I didn’t miss a drop of the witch blood.” Lee was back to his jaunty self. “Dad, I got a little heartburn.”

“Because you drank too much,” Danny admonished as we broke away and started walking toward the car. “You have to moderate.”

“Is Lee a vampire?” Dev asked, his emerald eyes wide in shock.

“Catch up, buddy,” Neil said.

“We will explain everything on our way home,” I promised. “Hey, is there any way Myrddin’s in the Council building right now?”

“He left at the same time we did.” Danny got out the keys to our rental. “So he should be.”

The ground beneath us shook.

“Excellent.” It wouldn’t kill the fucker, but it would hurt him. And he could dig for his book.

Dev had stopped. “What the hell was that?”

“Uhm, Mom might have blown up the Council building,” Lee said with a sigh. “And that is why I had to save the flamethrower. Also, we got this cool sword thing that killed me. It’s a souvenir.”

“She did what?” Dev asked.

But Danny was already laughing.

I walked to the car. It was time to go home.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

“They’re calling it a planned demolition.” Sasha put a newspaper in front of me two mornings later. The ring I’d stolen from Alexander had found a new home, and I had to admit, the vampire looked good in the morning light. “What else can they call it given how the building fell? It didn’t touch any of the structures around it.”

I glanced down at the paper at the picture of all that rubble. It made me happy. And sad. But mostly happy because Myrddin had gotten caught in it according to our intelligence. He was at an undisclosed location healing.

I hoped it hurt.

Sasha shook his head. “I thought you would like to know your plan worked. Lily managed to get on site last night, and she said there is no more portal. Sarah’s location is safe.”

“She could have sent me a change of address notice,” I groused. I didn’t know how I was going to find her. I only knew I was.

“And you, my goddess, could have found another way.” Dev stared down at the paper. “My beautiful club.”

“Babe, trust me. I did us a favor. He’d done terrible things with the place,” I promised him.

Danny walked in. He put a hand on the back of Dev’s neck. “Devinshea, think about how much fun you’ll have building something new.”

Dev’s eyes lit up. “Actually, I had been thinking about renovations. I’ll just have to do it from the ground up.”

They were optimistic that we would get back to Dallas again. I was okay with wherever we ended up, as long as we were together.

The night before Danny had formally turned Lee. It was a ritual and nothing more because Lee didn’t need the mystical gifts that came with king’s blood. He had his own.

And he was already enjoying his vampiric life. A couple of times a night. With multiple partners.

Zack strode in looking dapper in a suit that fit him perfectly. “Morning, all. Boss, we need to get a move on. We’re supposed to be in London to meet with the Order at one.”

They were already busy bringing our coalition back together.

Danny leaned over and kissed me. “See you tonight, Z. Try not to blow anything up.”

Dev took his turn, brushing his lips over mine. “Yes, my goddess. I expect this place to be standing when we return. And you have a shipment coming in today. From Paris. We’re going to need bigger closets.”

I could only imagine. Devinshea was back, and Europe’s economy would get a big boost.

They walked out, taking Sasha with them. For the first time the vampire could join them in the daytime meetings. It wasn’t more than a minute before the door swung open again and my sons were walking through, followed by Shy and Dean.
