Our first stop is to visit Lacie, who, for the most part, is doing okay. She tells us she’s not ready to sell the firm she and my dad own, but she’s going to delegate from her sister’s. I tell her whatever she wants to do is up to her. My dad left me a nice-sized nest egg with his life insurance policy he had, but everything else was left to Lacie, which I completely agreed with. She was his wife, his partner.

She also tells us how happy she is that Lexi and I are finally together. “Your dad would be so happy for you,” she says, tears filling her eyes. “He would always say you two were meant to be together.”

“I wish he were here,” I tell her, missing him so fucking much and hating that I’ll never see him again.

“Me too,” she agrees, rubbing her belly.

After talking with her for a little while longer, we say our goodbyes and then go to breakfast at Jumpin’ Java in Larchmont. It’s Lexi’s favorite coffee shop. We’ve both known the owner since we were little, so when we walk in holding hands, her face lights up. She runs around the counter and gives us both a hug. “I knew it! I knew one day you two would end up together. I’m so happy for you both.”

After placing our order, Lexi suggests we take it to go, so we can walk around Larchmont since it’s a nice day out. While we walk down the sidewalk, we hold hands and talk. Since my dad passed away, I’ve felt like I’m always one step away from losing my shit, but when I’m with Lexi, it feels like I can breathe. She chats away about the upcoming surfing competition and how excited she is, and I listen to her, enjoying her company.

“Dinner with our parents isn’t until later,” she says when we return to my truck. “If you want to drop me off at my jeep, I can take it to the beach to get some surfing in and meet you back at home later.”

“I only have a little more time until I go back to work. I want to go.” I also want to make sure Lexi doesn’t confront Jason. I would hope he wouldn’t do anything to her in person, but you never know what someone scorned is capable of, and I’m not about to risk Lexi going to the beach alone right now.

After stopping at the house so Lexi can grab her beach stuff, we head back out. When we get there, we find an area where there aren’t too many people and spread out a blanket.

“I’ll try not to be too long,” she says, peeling her shirt off her.

“Take as long as you want.” I pull her by the wetsuit that’s hanging at her waist and tug her toward me. She falls gently onto her knees between my legs, and I pull her up so she’s lying across the top of me.

Our mouths connect, and my tongue slips past her parted lips. I find her tongue, sucking on it until she moans into my mouth. She tastes like the mocha coffee she was drinking—sweet and fucking addictive. I slide my hands to her ass and squeeze her ass cheeks, pulling her closer, until she’s on top of me and rubbing her warmth against my dick.

“Get a room!” someone yells, making Lexi groan and attempt to move off me. Not wanting her to go anywhere—and yeah, maybe I’m staking my claim—I grip her hips and pull her into my lap.

She squeals in shock, then laughs, but doesn’t move. “Alec, I need to hit the waves.”

“I need your mouth,” I argue, fisting her ponytail and pulling her face to me for another kiss.

“So, this is why my sister called a family meeting,” Lexi’s brother, Max, says, dropping next to us with his camera in his hands.

“What are you doing here?” Lexi asks.

“Summer break,” Max smarts.

Lexi glances around, and when her eyes land on a couple guys walking over, she laughs. “You’re hanging out with Ricco?”

Max blushes. “I ran into him at the pier and he asked if I wanted to hang out.” He shrugs.

“He’s older than you, Max,” she points out.

“Lex, be my sister, not my mom, please.”

“I am being your sister,” she says softly so the guys can’t hear. “He’s more experienced than you… Just be careful, okay?”

“Got it,” Max says quickly.

“Well, looky here,” Ricco says to Lexi. “I heard the rumors, but I wasn’t sure if there was any truth to them.” His eyes are filled with humor, so I know he isn’t hating on us, but I also know the only person he could’ve heard the rumor from is Jason, since he’s the one who saw us last night.

My eyes go to the owner of the rumor, Jason, who’s standing back with his board in his hand, glaring at Lexi and me. Our eyes lock and I make it a point to wrap my arms around her waist, nuzzling my face into her neck and kissing her flesh.
