I’d been surviving, but I hadn’t been living. I swore I’d taken my first breath when I’d seen her. I knew for a fact that my heart actually beat for the first time when I saw her smile. And I’d never known this was how it was to love and be loved until I held her in my arms and knew I could never let her go.
I stared at Korrie and felt myself falling in love with her all over again. This last decade had been so good to her, my ageless beauty who’d given me life and two perfect children. We had our ups and downs, but what trumped all of that was the fact that no matter what, we had each other’s back.
When Adele and Oliver started talking about something together, Korrie looked at me and smiled.
I love you, I mouthed softly. I saw the way her eyes softened, heard the little sigh leave her mouth, and I felt like a man. A real man, because I made my girl happy.
And I’d strive to do that every single day for the rest of my life.
